I am an avid reader, but unfortunately I have a short memory, so need to keep a list of what I've read so I don't re-read it! My fave genres are Fantasy & YA, but I also like to venture into other reading material so I don't get to stuck in my ways!

What We Talk About When We Talk About God

He writes the way he speaks. In the same that way that watching a season of a TV show all at once makes the story arc more apparent, so it is hearing a Rob Bell sermon series one after the after, making the big overarching concepts easier to understand and digest.

I was in a constant state of head shaking throughout this book with the pointless bloodbaths and lack of cohesion. It was frustrating for me to try and read this book because of the stream of consciousness style that McCarthy took. I didn't know when someone was thinking, speaking, or transitioning from one topic to the next. The content jumping around had me scrunching up my forehead in confusion often.

(spoilers if you continue) That being said! The characters in this book were actually very interesting. I was appalled when Moss died as well as the young girl he had picked up. I had finally started getting into the story a little and rooting for Moss to succeed. It was as if everyone and everything just ended abruptly. I didn't like the flashbacks into the sheriff's journal or thought process and for most of the book I was trying to understand why they were even there.

However, I found this book hard to hate. Even with all the confusion, frustration, and sheer disappointment after reading the final page I thought that McCarthy was and is a brilliant writer pushing the boundaries of conventional fiction. That is what it's all about after all! So even though I didn't love the story I thought that McCarthy delivered a brilliant piece of fiction.
