The Black Company
“A odd 4 stars. The plot carries the book to the four stars, but the writing style I find falls at a three. The book has a weird sort of disjointed feel. “A odd 4 stars. The plot carries the book to the four stars, but the writing style I find falls at a three. The book has a weird sort of disjointed feel. The fantasy is good, the characters interesting, the world well imagined, BUT. The writing style doesn't lend the excitement this book can read with. The writing is dull and feels unimaginative compared to the world of the characters. I feel like this one book could have made a great series in the hands of a better wordsmith. The book feels like a story recounted too many times, not like an adventure. Although I will concede that the "story recounted" analogy does fit with the book.”
