I work in a middle school library and I love being surrounded by books- at school as well as at home. You'll see a lot of young adult books mixed in with my favorites - I have to be able to make recommendations to the kids!

I do, I love it. I love it almost as much as writing. Luckily, I got a creative writing course (big-time luck for a beginning teacher), and so I get the best of both worlds.
Sales are OK. I haven't been marketing much because I've been so busy, but the reviews are still very good, and I'm hoping people will notice the book eventually.
As for book #2? I just signed a contract for a collection entitled To Begin Again (all stories about new beginnings, second chances, and the like). It will be out in early 2011.
I'm still toiling away at the novel, but it's slow-going. I'm thinking 2030 for that one :)
I'm making a trip to Half Price books today. I hope to find TGWTDT. I'm excited!!!
Oh, but first... papers to grade...

How are you? Ive been so inactive on here lately... busy being a new teacher!!! I'll be curious to see what you think of TGWTDT. I saw the movie (I know...) and I'm not sure if I should read the book.

Hey bud. I finished the Big Stone Gap series this morning. Loved it. I really would like to see more with Etta's child and stuff. She better keep adding since the characters are so lovable! See you Monday!

So good to hear from you, Joanne. Things have been crazy in my life (lots of transition, but most of it very positive) and so I've been less active on here...
    How are you??
I'll check out Wright's book! Thanks! I'm rereading Old School by Tobias Wolff. Highly recommended as well.

Thank you! Grandma was a big influence, saying she's too old for love. Then, I added in my own neurosis and fear of losing memory, what romance means and how it can become distorted but unflinchingly beautiful in the mind and poof: the story. I'm really into fiction right now, it's freeing after the memoir (which was emotionally exhausting to write). If you want a thick read, and haven't yet, check out The Magus

It's going well, although I'm starting too many projects at once. I'd love for you to read my newest short story here: http://www.asu.edu/superstitionreview/n4/fiction/jenknox.html (Fiction is a different animal, easier to write, I think)

Thanks for the recommendations! It's so good to find someone with similar tastes.

You always come through right when I need a good recommend :) I just finished "Still Alice" It's a quick read, a bestseller in mass market right now, but it's really good. Wow, I need to update my shelf.... ..

I just finished Lit by Mary Karr. It's great, too. I just posted my review--it's not as good as The Liars' Club, but far better than Cherry.
I'm gearing up for Her Fearful Symmetry now. I do love the title...

Thank you, Joanne. What a lovely note to wake up to. Especially from a woman who has read so many coming-of-age tales.
(I'll be curious to know whether it sustains your interest to "the end.")
