I'm a wife to one Frenchman and a Maman to two girls, 10 and 7, and I've been on the supernatural/ paranormal romance kick since finding Twilight at the end of an oh-my-God-Potter's-finished-what-do-I-read-now frenzy. It was a good, albeit 'light', intro into the world of paranormal romance. Since then, I've enjoyed a few other YA series as well but my favorites always tend to be of the NC-17 variety.
I've yet to be able to put into words what makes me really like a series/book. It's usually a combo of strong/interesting/well-developed characters, paranormal intrigue, romance is helpful (but not a requisite), good storyline and a writer's style that's easy-to-read. Top that all off with a little je ne sais quoi and I've made a new favorite. I realize that all these subjective characteristics don't apply equally to everyone especially since part of my liking a series also has to do with reading it at the 'right time' (if I'm stressed about family or down about something that has nothing to do with the book, it'll still affect my reading experience) so some of it is just left to chance.
That said, some of my favorites continue to be:
Kelley Armstong, Women of the Otherworld
Sherrilyn Kenyon, Dark Hunters
JR Ward, Black Dagger Brotherhood
Kelley Armstrong, Darkest Powers
JK Rowling, Harry Potter series
Charlaine Harris, Southern Vampire/ Sookie Stackhouse
and a yet-unpublished series by my friend
other series that I'm hooked on (but can't call favorites):
Kim Harrison, The Hollows/ Rachel Morgan
Laurell K. Hamilton, Anita Blake
MaryJanice Davidson, Queen Betsy
Jeaniene Frost, Night Huntress
Cassandra Clare, Mortal Instruments
