My love of reading started at a very young age when I would read through an old "New Book of Knowledge" encyclopedias that was in the house (I believe it was a 1972 or 1974 edition). At 12 I actually purchased my first books to read and hit the jackpot: I randomly picked out an Anniversary Edition of JRR Tolkein's Lord of the Rings from the shelves at the original Barns and Noble Book Seller in Manhattan. It was a fortuitous selection
After that I went through a huge 5 or 6 volume compendium of Classics that my mother purchased for some reason. I wish I could remember the name of it or the publisher; it contained literally dozens of unabridged classics in giant 2 or 3 thousand page tomes on paper thinner than tissue. Although I still question whether "Ann of Green Gables" is really a classic.
I read a lot and now have also taken to books on CD whilst driving in my car as I am in it at least 4 hours a day. I read about everything that interests me, so whilst I have obvious trends in my booklist there are many other items in there and not in there.
As of this writing my Shelf has about 300 books and I haven't really scratched the surface. I will add more as I get time. All of my readings will not make it as many I can't remember, many are textbooks, and some I'll never admit to reading in public.
