Thanks for the suggestions! I've had the pleasure of reading "I, Robot" (before the movie existed) and it was amazing. I've never read Bradbury but I will have to give him a try.

My wife thought the same thing. I kinda liked the bigger picture of just how corrupt and frightening the powers that be are in this world, and it gaves impetus to the revolution angle which I expect will be the story of the third book. Still, this could easily have been worked into a two part series, rather than a middle book. It comes down to selling three books vs. two, I suppose. A cynical view, but valid I am sure.

If you didn't like the second one, chances are you won;t like the third either. It is very dark, the situation is getting worse and worse. I'm trying to read something light hearted right now, to forget about the Mockinjay.

Me too! I love all the different people that get together and have discussions. And I guess I can see why you didn't like it on those grounds.
I'm really fascinated by abnormal psychology and I think that's part of what grabs me in stories like this.

Part of it is that I could relate in certain ways to the main character. I was a really picky eater when I was little and I spent most of my childhood refusing to eat, so my parents gave me the story to read.
Then I guess I really like the writing style and I did like the character. It was such a pointless tragedy that it was almost funny to me. Like the guy could do one thing that nobody cared about that was killing him for no good reason and he did it anyway.
It's hard to put my finger on it exactly, but I think I like pretty much everything about it, and just the atmosphere in general. Plus I have an obsession with circus freaks.

    Why didn't you like it?

    Glad you enjoyed it!

I know what you mean about the "magic outs". Sort of like a deus ex machina (sp?), I think. I'm ok with those sorts of things if they're not overused... but there was one book I read a while ago (can't remember to title) where it was the most notable aspect of the plot. Ugh. :)

Hope you enjoy Catching Fire (HG#2). I really did. I wrote a (non-spoilery) review of it here: http://inkslingerblog.wordpress.com/2010/10/22/the-hunger-games-trilogy-a-review/

Cool! I see you're reading The Hunger Games. Great book, and the opening to one of my favorite series. I think the third book, Mockingjay, was my favorite, though I know many readers didn't care for it due to it's darker, more violent tone.

What do you think so far of "Lies My Teacher Told Me"? The title and premise intrigued me. :)

I try to read all of Chuck Palahniuk's books but I haven't managed to read Rant yet. I hope to soon though!
I've read IT but I haven't read The Stand yet. Another one I want to read at some point but I'm a little daunted by the length with all my other reading goals. I've heard it's really good though!

No, actually it was mostly just diary entries from charlie. Some showing him smarter, then highly intelligent, then back down. It mentions the nurse and their relationship...but nothing about parents. Alot more about his interactions with the scientists and their papers.

I really like Odd Thomas books. They are quick easy reads. I didn't like when he killed off the girlfriend though.

Try reading "Cold Like the River". Especially if you like supernatural thrillers (Stephen King, Dean Koontz, etc.)
