While I wait for a good book to come out, I try and write myself. Its a new, and time consuming, challenge. I finally understand what takes so long to write a book. Being relatively new to it, I have the fun of learning new techniques while I try to shed bad ones. I write, and then rewrite, and then rewrite...take a peek if you... more »

    Hi Nina,

Thanks so much! I know you appreciate the posts and I have appreciated yours as well. I wish others wouldn't spend their time being so negative when others are being positive but some people are just born that way. I usually ignore negative people because they are not worth wasting time thinking about. Negativity brings people down, positivity lifts you up. So we should always hold onto being positive no matter what others try to bring to the table.

    Best Wishes!

Well, I don't quite recommend I'm Perfect, You're Doomed unless you're okay with thinking in that warped Jehovah Witnesses way for a few days. I'm not exactly sure if she quite turned out normal. But since huge amounts of sarcasm is dumped in there, maybe...

I've only read that Fahrenheit 451 book by Ray Bradbury.

I don't go by book lists. I think they're way too controlling on what books you get your hands on. Too many books in the world to only go by what everyone else likes. They might have missed something.

I've been busy getting a manuscript ready and sent off to an agent, so I haven't been keeping up with Shelfari.
I've been reading Linnea Sinclair's Gabrial's Ghost but I'm having a hard time getting into it. So now I've picked up Smilla's Sense of Snow by Peter Hoeg. I must be in the mood for literary writing. I like it much better.

Hi Nina! I'm from the Author, Author group and wanted to welcome you to our forum. November’s featured author is Nora Roberts, and we have two alternate authors, O Henry and Anne Rice. If you're interested, you can choose a book written by any (or all!) of these three authors, and after you've read it, please come post a review and star rating so the rest of us in the group know what you read and whether you liked it or not. Happy Reading!

I had 2 Brittanys (Britannies? ~smile~) when I was a youngster. VERY much of TWO hands full! People didn't take pictures of them but, I did always find teenage boys under the hood of my 57 chevy! (It was used - I'm not THAT old!)

I just keep all my public notes so that I have the avatar available for chatting.

    Hi Nina!

I prefer to think of it as "great minds think alike" so, of course, we post in the same areas! ~smile~

I'm honored by the friends request but choose not to use that Shelfari feature. It feels "creepy" to me to have my every action reported on to people and to have their actions reported to me.

I do hope, though, that you will feel free to chat via these public notes. If you wish for more private conversation about any specific issue, I created a "group" called Private Chat room for that use. Ironically, I have to have "friendship" established to invite someone to join it! It is a temporary area where, once the conversation is ended, I delete all members, threads, and friendships so that it can be used for the next "private" chat.

If you should ever want to make use of such a private (temporary) area, just post a pubic note to me saying so.

It will be quite a while before I delve into the Outlander books. I have 97 on my TBR pile at the moment anyway AND I am expecting almost 100 books from a friend who is eliminating her dead-tree personal library now that she is a kindle convert. The Outlander books will be delivered today and they'll go onto that teetering TBR pile. These books require dedication - you can't just read a page or chapter and then resume your life. At least that is what I found with OUTLANDER.

    Good chattin' with you.

Thanks Nina, I might put it on my list to read later, I have a few things I need to get to first. I just got "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" from a person in bookcrossing so that's up next.

I used to read a lot of horror but have expanded my horizons! LOL These I added were recommended by my library and thought they sounded good. What was "Under the Skin" about? Did you like it?

I'm a naturally fast reader. But really, the thing I did was I read the first 50 pages of around 8 books. Decided to gather them all up and try to actually finish them. Argh.

Dune was great, I like it.

Thanks for the great info. I think I am going to give Outlander a try. I enjoy strong characters, female as well as male. As long as there is a great story I am in :)

Glad you enjoyed your time in NC, we are a diverse state for sure, and New Bern surely is a historic area. I live in the piedmont near Charlotte, but have spent lots of time in our mountains, and I also enjoy the coastal areas (as opposed to just beaches).
It is fantastic here today, low 70's with 37% humidity. If I could just figure out how to keep the humidity there, lol.

Thanks again, and hope you have a great week. Ben

    Hi!
Be warned,Ii did find it really hard to get into initially, I actually did put it down and came back to it after reading something else. I'm not sure why, I guess it doesn't give context at the beginning so it takes a while to work out what you're doing there if that makes sense! Very well written; very realistic and worth it I think, so if you're after something a bit complex and not easy-reading it's a good choice.

You are correct in that the "Pillars of Creation" are a part of the Eagle Nebulae. No doubt that Hubble has given us some truly amazing views of the universe.

I have been thinking of reading the Outlander series. What did you think of it, and does it compare to other works well? Thanks, Ben
