Everyone should read, sadly the world seems to be not reading as much as they once were. I personaly feel that reading makes the world a better place; without reading everyone will eventually stop existing. My one wish in life is that the world will once again become book lovers.

    Hi Joey,

My name is Danielle Hartman. I am the web marketing coordinator for Vire Press, publisher of French Letters: Virginia’s War, a World War II historical fiction and finalist for two awards, the Willie Morris Award for the Best Southern Fiction of 2009 and the Military Writers Society of America award for Best Historical Fiction of the year.

I want to invite you to Hastings on Gem Lake Road in Amarillo on November 20, 2009 at 6:00 pm. The author, Jack London, is a native West Texan who graduated from West Texas State University and the University of Texas Law School. He served in the Army as an officer in the Quartermaster Corps and now, as an avid historian, Jack is devoted to preserving this important piece of American history.

Jack will talk about the life in the American homefront during WWII, days of rations and V-mails and women leaving home to enter the work force, a time when the war was changing people without them knowing it. He loves to visit and I'm sure you would enjoy getting to know him.

For further information on Jack or to read an excerpt of French Letters: Virginia’s War please visit www.virepress.com

We look forward to seeing you at Hastings.

    Best Wishes,
    Danielle Hartman

Hey, have you ever heard of the book Imp? I cant think of the author but I read it a long time ago. Its a weird little book....i think its about a woman (really religious) and she has a daughter. The Imp lives under their floor (in the basement) and its the moms son but from the devil. i wanna say stephen king wrote it but really i dont know.

I am right with you Joey!! I love books and reading. I think you would be surprised to know that there are still quite a few readers out there (Not to put it down, but Amarillo is not the literary capitol of the country). People have so many entertainment options to choose from today, but reading a good book is still a great way to pass the time. There are more ways to read today also...kindle, audio books and the good old paper version. I am so wierd that I am usually reading 2 or three books concurrently; an actual hard copy and 1 or 2 audio books. This way I can finish more novels when I am unable to sit down with an open book. I have to admit that I still prefer the old fashion method when I have time to do it. You may want to consider relocating to a larger more sophisticated city where people appreciate you... say Austin or even Dallas.

Hi Joey -- Welcome to the group. I couldn't agree with you more. My mother instilled in all of us a love for reading. I have tried to pass this on to my children and grandchildren as well. My bookshelves, floor and garage are filled with books! Again, welcome and happy reading!

Hi, and welcome to the Chiller group. Our group's been around for a while so there are a ton of threads. Hop on over to our introduction post and tell the group hi and talk about some of your favorite horror authors. Feel free to start your own discussion posts and browse our growing group shelf.

Any questions at all just ask, same for suggestions or ideas.

Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die here and join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (from the book) or you can argue the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in our discussions. The current books are at the top of the list for that month. If there is any way I can answer your questions about the group or about Shelfari, let me know.
If you don’t own the book the list can be found http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm?content_id=22845
