hey ken, thanks for the suggestions. i'm currently waiting for drop city to become available at the library. on a somewhat unrelated note, i see from your profile you're raising chickens- do you have a favorite how-to book?

Yeah, knulp was a good book. It's one I want to reread, because I feel it gave me a lot to think about at the time I read it. I love Hermann Hesse, he's one of my favorite authors.

thanks for the invite--looking at your favorites, I see Abbey and I've just returned from his country! You asked about the recommendation... If you like Tom Waits, try reading Richard Ford's short story collection, Rock Springs. I just finished John Kennedy Toole's, "A Confederacy of Dunces" and it's great.

You asked if I could rec a novel--looking at your books, you might want to try reading some of "champion mojo storytelle"r Joe R. Lansdale's stuff, like "Lost Echoes" "The Bottoms", "Bubba Ho Tep", etc..

Hello Ken, interesting shelf you've assembled. I don't see any John McPhee or Bill Bryson. McPhee's Coming Into the Country is a favorite of mine, a series of essays about settlers in Alaska, and the very funny nonfiction account of walking the Appalacian Trail, A Walk in the Woods, by Bill Bryson might be titles you would enjoy. Welcome to Shelfari.

Hey, looks like we read some of the same stuff! I read "Little Bee" last month and highly recommend it. It's a great story about African immigrants in England, discrimination, and the atrocities occuring in Nigeria (as elsewhere in Africa). I'm currently reading something fun, different: "The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie." I read a few mysteries but am not hooked; this one has a fun 11-year-old narrator with a clear, mock-serious voice. Change of pace!

thanks for connecting, Ken! Yep, that was espresso – Caffe Vitta variety in that case, although, I don't really have a loyalty – except to say NO to Starbuck's. And yes, Top Pot is also delicious. I know the guys who run that whole operation – pretty delicious, except for, of course, that they wholesale doughnuts to Starbuck's. Sensing a theme here...
