An avid reader of fiction and poetry. Trying to branch out into non-fiction as well, but too much good fiction. I love to read works in translation because I feel like I'm entering another social, historical world.

I think its a classic example of a movie "ruining" a book. Apocalypse Now was so powerful, so ominous (and so many other adjectives) whereas Heart of Darkness just seemed like a trip up a river to find the strange man.

I was disappointed. Of course, I was prejudiced going in visualizing Marlon Brando being sought out by Martin Sheen. Hit a bit of a slump---wasn't crazy about Heart of Darkness and I didn't like the Sound and the Fury at all. I get the symbolism of having the mentally disabled character narrate in a disjointed pattern without reference to time--but its damn near unbearable to read. As was the second chapter.
