Joan Blindsight

I live on the central coast of California about a mile from the beach. Contrary to what you might expect, the summers here are usually cool and overcast, which is fine with me as I'm originally from Western Washington State.

I enjoy reading good fiction but find as I've grown older (I'm in my early 60's) I tend to read more... more »

Thanks for your note. I notice you're reading Mary Oliver. I love her poetry.

I haven't read it yet...it's next on my list as soon as I finish The Bell Jar. Dave Eggers is one of my favorite authors so I'm very excited.

Thanks for the libraries website. Libraries are us. I've been fortunate to be in California as far at Point Reyes but have not been to the Northwest. Still, I think I could recognize it from having read The Living--I expect that on the Olympic Pennisula one can hear and feel vegetation growing in the mist. Happy vacationing!

Glad to meet you. I'll bet you have a special affection for The Living. I pilfered Eggers' book from your shelf. The website you recommend is one I will check out--sometimes I wish for a book I read in childhood. A friend heard me speak of The Adventures of Perrine--the first big, fat book I ever read--and she bought it for me for no special reason. What a great gift! I'll never forget her kindness. Another friend has a houseful of books that she needs to catalog and sell. Her mother left her a huge collection including many unique children's books. I recall a rhomboid-shaped book from the 20's or 30's. I may ask my friend to list some of those titles if your cousin is interested in purchasing old children's books.
