I'm 55 and I've been an obssesive reader since childhood. I'm retired now, which gives me more time to read, obviously. I've got so many books sometimes I don't think I'll ever finish them all. That doesn't stop me from accumulating more of course!

  • The Many Aspects of Mobile Home Living: A Novel (Vintage Contemporaries)

This is another book sale "Jewel". To be honest, I bought it because I thought it had a really cool title. The story is a little slow to develop, but ends up more than worth the time. Great characters. It's about a judge In North Carolina whos e life is falling apart. He's separated from his wife, and completely bored with his life. He then finds himself in the middle of a grand adventure involing stolen money, jewels,a mystery letter, and murder. By turns funny and almost spiritual. I recommend.

  • The Confessions of Max Tivoli: A Novel
    • Rated 1 stars

This might be the most depressing book I've ever read. Max Tivoli might be the most selfish, self centered, manipulative character ever created. You want to be sympathetic, but he's so hateful it's impossible. I know this book was loved by the critic's when it was published, and it is completely original, but that's about the best I can say about it.

  • Swan Peak: A Dave Robicheaux Novel
    • Rated 3 stars

I've read all the Dave Robicheaux novels. This one is very good, but not his best. I got the feeling reading this that Burke is coming to the end of the road with the Dave and Clete characters. Too bad.

I've always loved the King Arthur saga. I probably have five or six different versions. This is my favorite version. There are 5 books inthe Pendragon Cycle. Taliesin starts with the end of Atlantis, and ties it direcctly to the roots of the Arthurian legend. I found it fascinating, and greatly enjoyed the entire series. Highly recommended!

  • Scarlet (King Raven Trilogy)

A great reimagining of the Robin Hood legend. You should read "Hood" first, since this is the second book of the King Raven trilogy. Book 3 has just been published. It's called "Tuck", so far only avaible in a hard cover edition. I myself prefer trade paperbacks.

I haven't met anyone yet that's read this book. I picked it up at a book sale because it sounded interesting. It's about a man's journey to India, and the profound changes it forces him through. I found it exciting and thought-provoking. It effected me deeply in a way no book has in a long time.
