Cathleen B

I teach junior high school Language Arts in Southern California, and I love to read and write! My shelf includes some of my all-time favorite books, personally and professionally. I will add more books that I read this summer, and possibly more favorites as I remember them. In the fall, it would be fun to add young adult books that I recommend... more »

Hi Cathleen, I agree with you about the bragging. I enjoyed reading your review! You brought up some good points. I did enjoy hearing much of what she had to say, though it was not all brand new for me either.

Hi Cathleen! I found "The Book Whisperer" to be a very worthwhile read. At least two of my teacher friends also read it. It's making the rounds at our school. I look forward to hearing what you think about it!

Thanks Cathleen! I actually had the opportunity to hear the author speak a few months back and he talked a bit about this organization. I hope your summer has been going well!

Hi Cathleen, have you heard of the HBO series True Blood? That's based on the books, James and I watched the first season on DVD and liked it, so I started reading the books. It's about vampires and supernatural stuff, so you know I'm all over it! So far so good, I will let you know what I think.

I have a son entering middle school! EEK! I am an elementary media specialist. My 4th and 5th grade teachers will be interested in your literature circle books. That bridge from guided reading into literature circles has been tough at my school. Just because 4 kids are reading the same book does not make it a literature circle!

Hi Cathleen - I enjoyed looking at your list of professional literature! If you go to my shelfari page and click on my friends, you'll see two of my colleagues who are also passionate about middle school language arts. Cindy and Cathy ("Mrs. Blackler") are both 6th grade teachers and love reading young adult books. Check out their shelves! Cathy is the new president of her local reading association chapter. Now, that girl reads A LOT. On a recent trip to Vegas (her hubby was driving), she read 3 YA novels! When I grow up I want to be like her.

Hi Cathleen! Yep - this site is great fun. It can also be addicting - looking at friend's books, reading reviews. As I look at others' shelves, I'm reminded of more books that I read. Angela's Ashes I read many years back, and I really liked it. I was immediately sucked in emotionally as I connected to the kids in the book. So sad.

Hi Cathleen! This is such a fun site! I joined about a month ago bgecause two of my 6th grade teacher friends wanted a place to share children's, young adult, and adult lit. The three of us were(are) passionate about helping students find books that they love. It's fun for me to see what everyone is reading. I also just added recent books and other books that have a special place in my heart. I'm glad you joined!
