There is nothing better than a good book- on a beach, on a rainy day with a hot cup of tea, in a crowded subway, curled up on a sofa, or in a bookstore with a cup of coffee- as Borges said, "I've always imagined Paradise would be a sort of library".

I have not even heard about the movie. Can you tell me about it? Did you like it?

Thanks, my Plan to Read list has gotten a little out of control...I've been in Argentina for a few months and I miss being able to walk into an English bookstore. Pepperdine is pretty great. I met a lot of amazing people there. Where did you end up going? I noticed you read Roots awhile ago-- I'm about 4/5 of the way through and stuck. Does it pick up at the end? I really loved it until the story got to Kunta's grandson. Either way, I'm going to push myself to the end someday soon.

Sorry, didn't see your reply. I don't check here often.

I'm actually from Baku, born and raised. 16 wonderful early years of my life. Other than that, lived in Novosibirks for 1 year. Left all together in 1990.

From your picture, I would've never guessed that you had ties to Kavkaz.

Thanks. I try. Being raised in the Soviet Union warps one's taste in literature. ;)

And your shelf is quite impressive, too.

Welcome to 1001 books. You can keep track of the books you have read from the book, 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die here and join in the discussions on the books we are reading for the month (from the book) or you can argue the merits of the list as some enjoy doing. We hope you will want to join in our discussions. The current books are at the top of the list for that month. If there is any way I or Mossflower can answer your questions about the group or about Shelfari, let us know.
If you don’t own the book the list can be found http://www.listology.com/content_show.cfm?content_id=22845. A downloadable list of the second edition is available at http://johnandsheena.co.uk/books/?page_id=160.
