I love reading. My favorites are mystery / thrillers, horror, fiction, humor, romance, fantasy, and crafts.

My husband and I have been married over 34 years, and we have 2 adult children. I am a 1955 Post Polio survivor, and in 1985 I had developed Post Polio Syndrome. Since 1993 I have been wheelchair bound, and I stay at home a... more »

    Hi Virginia,
I'm home with the flu and so have a bit of time to read and check up on Shelfari.
Finished two books "The Virginian" and "Smoke Hole" which I just added. Both are quite good - set in early 1900s, a switch from the vampire and fantasy genres for sure, but glad for the change of scene. You're reacing "Cold Mountain"? It was a good book, but I did find it a little depressing. Hmm, I don't have that one on my shelf...read it a few years ago, liked it but was left with a bitter taste in my mouth. Does that make sense? I'll be interested in your reaction to it.
    Read on, Patty

Hi Virginia! We've been friends for awhile now, so I want to invite you to see an amazing and authentic ghost photo that I snapped myself. I'm posting it just in time for Halloween! The more you gaze at the photo, the more ghosts you willl see! It's truly creepy! Check it out: http://devilsverse.wordpress.com

I haven't read the book about the insects yet. I just remember in your review you said the author was the best horror writer and the scene when the insects eat the guy from the inside out was really gross. Thanks again for your reviews.

Was "Homing" like an "attack of the insects" type of story. By The way I appreciate your reviews.

I live in the UCR area. And I agree, it is fun, I just am not able to check it out as often as I'd like - for that matter, I'm not able to spend as much time reading as I'd like either.

I haven't been here that long either. Years ago I worked in a library and one of the patrons kept a record of the books she read. I thought that was a great idea, so I started doing that. That is why I have so many books on my read shelf.

I am a book fiend, but I sometimes forget what books I have, so this is a great way to keep track.

We haven't had too hot a summer this year, so I am knitting quite a few different things including a blanket (Girasole) and socks.

    Hey Virginia,

It sounds to me like you have a gift for making the best of some very difficult situations. I really admire that. I was married to my first husband 18 years and had 3 children. He was killed in 1988 by a drunk driver. I remarried 5 years after his death and we just had our 16th anniversary last month. My hobbies run along similar lines to yours. My first passion is quilting and I have made countless baby quilts during the past 30 + years. I am still learning the finer points of knitting. I listen to audio books on my commute to and from work and usually read myself to sleep. Not very exciting but these are all the things that you want your "Granny" to be doing! HA I have 8 grandchildren and each one of them are a special gift in their own way. Two of my grandsons are dealing with autism. So I have read many books on that subject.

I am interested to know how it is that you missed taking the polio vaccine? I remember the red spot on a sugar cube so well. I was born in 1952.

Thanks for taking the time to share a bit of your life with me.
