Misanthropic curmudgeon and book addict. It's a rare day that I can pass a second-hand book shop without succumbing to the sirens call of a tatty paperback - hence the number of unread books on my shelf (if only I could read them at the same rate I buy them).

Tastes:

I wish I had the balls--err, brains--to be a book thief. But really, if you take away the wishlist items, and consider that my library is lucky enough to also have the books collected in the entire lifetime of a fellow bookworm (my father), it's not really that shocking, hehe. Besides, who was it who waxed euphoric about tatty paperbacks' siren call? :p

Haha, me neither. I enjoyed the null-grav fighting techniques, but other than that, I found it a bit...sadomasochistic.

Hello again, Simon. I saw an "Ender's Game" reference on your wall, and remembered this:

No, i have not gotten the book yet, as i was unsure about it. Though i can read and like pretty much any book, i just simply can not finish a book if it is written badly. I have tried and it irritates me to the point where I want to throw it away, but ill just get it from the library and read a bit, just to see what its about. Thanks for the review.

Hi, and welcome to the Chiller group. Our group's been around for a while so there are a ton of threads. Hop on over to our introduction post. Tell the group hi and talk about some of your favorite horror authors or books. Feel free to start your own discussion posts and browse our growing group shelf.

Any questions at all just ask, same for suggestions or ideas.

I had a look at your shelf again, and just now noticed you seem really into what most people consider horror. That this did not immediately impinge on my consciousness when seeing all the Lovecraft probably says a lot. ]:P

Another wish for Shelfari: a small space for short updates or whatnot, a la Twitter or Facebook.

I really enjoyed it, but I wouldn't class it as a horror. It is a good old fashioned ghost story. It has a couple of really scary (supernatural) moments, and I haven't found many books that have genuinely scared me in this way. Saying that, I am a bit of a wuss! By today's standards there is nothing horrific, gruesome or bloody about it so if that's your thing (as it normally is mine) it may not be to your liking. I also seem to remember the beginning being a bit boring and it took a while to get in to.
I will always class The Woman in Black as one of my much loved books simply because it haunted me long after the last page.

The whole point of a book group is to try new things, so give it a go! Let me know what you think.

hi! Thanks for add! Timisoara is a beautiful city, one of the most beautiful citys in Romania, in my opinion. It's culturaly interestig and you can find here a lot of open minded people.

The duck thanks thee, Simon. ;)

It is always delightful to run into a "Most Alike" though...and not only for narcissistic reasons (teehee). Looking through your shelf, though, I can see that Shelfari includes wishlist items in making that deduction, because I can already see some I can't wait to read. :)

hello there! no, i haven't read yet crimson petal and white..but i'll put it on my to-read list; i recommend you to read books by mircea cartarescu and mircea eliade; and i'll try to think and search for other good romanian writers that had their books translated.

Thank you for your feedback on the Tooth Fairy. You write very well. I love your comment about "the siren call of a tatty paperback" in you profile description. I, too, purchase books at a far superior rate than I read them. My love is for the new book smell so my addiction is like a drain to my pocket book!
Anyway, I'll certainly follow up with my thoughts on tooth fairy. Thanks again!
