What I love best about books is that they are unchanging. In a world where everything around us and within us is renewed, restored, or destroyed each day, the characters in a our favorite books remain an anchor. I can open that book and know that even though I am different, they are the same. I can learn new things from them because I have a... more »

Yeah, Kim Harrison has quite a few books so I was hoping that I would be as enamored with her writing as I was with Kelley Armstrong. No comparison, at all. I don’t know if the first book is just slow because it is world building or if it is just a dull book. I couldn’t get into Jim Butcher either. It is due back tomorrow so I guess I will just scratch Dead Witch Walking off my list. The Marriage Plot won the Pulitzer so I will give it one more try.

I do not know if it is me or the books, but I can not get through one of the ones I have started. Dead Witch Walking, blah. . . The Returners . . .double blah . . .The Marriage Plot( I won’t say blah yet because I am only a chapter into it) but I haven’t picked it up since the other night. I haven’t started Follow the River yet but I hope it captures my attention quickly because I start getting the hives when I do not have a good book to entertain me.

Thanks. I will check into it. Isn’t it funny what parents will tell you to read or watch? Back when I was 18 or 19 my mother told me to watch Deliverance. If you have seen it then you will know why I was like “thanks for the recommendation Mom”.

I am really craving a book similar to Outlander and Into the Wilderness. Any suggestions?

I don’t know if I can lend the book to you or not since I am on the nook. We could always try. I know they will probably make an appearance in the last book but I will miss them greatly. I have liked the other books and characters but I love Clay and Elena. She has a new series she is getting ready to start and I do love her teen series, but I know how you feel.

I wasn’t excited about seeing it either. The only reason I saw it opening weekend was because Traci was taking her daughter and friends to see it. Otherwise, I may not have seen it so quickly either. And the first ten minutes of the movie I was cringing in my seat thinking “why am I here?” Then, it got better and I left the theater happy with the movie. I do think the producers of these movies made a big mistake releasing Eclipse 6 months after New Moon then waiting a year and a half for Breaking Dawn. Pacing them a year apart kept our interest peaked. A year and a half from Eclipse to the first Breaking Dawn was just too long a wait. I have read too many books I like as well if not more. Right now I am more excited about The Hunger Games movie than the next Breaking Dawn Movie. Timing is everything.

I saw it this past weekend. The first 10 minutes of the movie I was thinking “What am I doing here?” Then it got better and I left the theater very happy.

I am really enjoying the Game of Thrones as well. I love Tyrion. I haven’t gotten obsessed with it the way I did with Jamie and Claire. Of course, I haven’t fallen in love with anyone in Game of Thrones.

I hope you are right, it will be a sad day for me when I can’t hold a book in my hands. Finished Game of Thrones and I can’t wait to start the next.

I also want to watch the HBO series again, because I am wondering if I am correct in how accurate it is. I saw Twilight the movie before reading the book. When I read the book I was able to visualize the characters as they were in the film so I started thinking the movie was more true to the book. Then when I bought it and watched it a second time I was like “Hey, where is this scene" . . .etc. etc. etc. I hope I haven’t done the same thing with Game of Thrones. I guess I just wanted to throw that disclaimer out there in case you watch and think I had lost my mind.

Anyway, have you seen the new Twilight movie yet?

I know. We should try skype sometime soon.

Let’s see if I can remember what I typed earlier. As far as Game of Thrones and the HBO version, I do not think you will be disappointed. I can completely visualize a lot of the scenes while I am reading. I guess when I started I assumed there would be a lot of differences from the book to the screen. Especially after seeing what they did to True Blood. It is so close I have found that I have been skimming because I know what is going to happen. I can hardly wait to get to the next book so I can read it without knowing what is going to happen.

Tom and I use to do the date night out to the book store too. I refuse to buy books from Amazon because I am so afraid that they are going to put Barnes and Noble out of business. I am so torn over our dependency on electronics. I love my Nook but I still prefer to hold a real book in my hands. Even though sometimes the library books are so nasty and funky that I would rather read the electronic version. Now the record companies have decided to quit making actual cds. I new it would happen, but I am just old school. I like to hold it in my hand. So sad.

Well, I started Game of Thrones and so far so good. I watched the series on HBO, and I am happy to say that everything I am reading sounds familiar. From what I can remember the series is staying pretty true to the book. Kudos to Martin that this book is so good that even though I know what is going to happen I am having a hard time putting it down.

It is fun to read something other than picture books to them. I couldn't believe it when Anne actually stayed awake during A Christmas Carol. I wanted to fall asleep, but she was enthralled.

So what made you pick up Harry Potter? I keep asking Anne if she wants to me to read them to her, but she keeps choosing to wait until she can read them by herself so we can do a book club.

I hate when a book slows you down. I tell you what, I do not know if I could get through a classic novel right now. I think it has something to do with having to read while Anne is singing, etc. I need the book to be fast paced and to just. get. to. the. point. I imagine Hugo is a lot like Dickens, too many words. I feel your pain.

Not yet, but my list has shrunk at the library so I will hopefully get to them soon. I just started a book that is 1000 pages. Depending on how it reads it may take me awhile. It is called Shattered (Children of Men series). I got it free on the Nook. I just tried to read this book called The Lantern. Ugh, the writing was way to flowery. I would find myself totally drifting while I was reading it. It was supposed to be similar to Rebecca, but . . .I just don't have time to read books like that anymore. When you try to read with kids you need books that get to the point.

Alright, your review convinced me to read A Game of Thrones. I watched the HBO series and really liked it, but I was just afraid to get started on the series.

Most of the violence in Enclave is directed at the creatures in the book. It is a shorter book, so most of the fight scenes are not as graphic. I would recommend that you read Enclave, just wait awhile so that they do not all mesh together.
