Hi Karen, Please excuse the dumb note I wrote 2 days ago. You were responding to my note about the "Illustratrated History of the Medieval World." (My brain was fried after a couple hours adding books to my shelf.) It'll be a while before I finish that one, because it's like a textbook. I'm not sure I'd choose to read it with a kid. The focus is on the Mediterranean countries from 400 to 1500, including the early years of Christianity and the beginning of Islam. I'm getting a perspective on the territory where we're at war. Those countries of Asia Minor have been captured and recaptured so many times since the earliest days -- the days before they had their current boundaries and names! I'm suprised they haven't all morphed into the same people by now. In any case, w're pretty clueless if we think we can turn any of those country's into American-style democracies.
Hi Karen, Glad to have you for a book friend. Now all I need to do is add to my shelf. I've barely made a start. I'm reading a tome from National Geographic, "An Illustrated History of the Medieval World." That shows you what I do for fun! It's beautiful, but the maps aren't as well done as I'd hoped. I'll review it on my shelf when I've finished. As my home page says, I'm usually into good detective fiction.
Karen, Dick just finished reading Drop City and enjoyed it very much. I took today off, for a doctor appointment, and have just now finished reading what I am going to rate as a ***** five star book! Check out my shelf! Wow, what a book!
Your description of Consequences makes me think you would like the one I just finished: Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford. It was one of the best stories I've read in awhile! Try it Karen!
I can't believe it: I invited my youngest son, Luke and he's already entered 190 books! How did he do that? I know he's a voracious reader, but, geez ...
Hi Karen. Yes, I'd like to borrow Drop City, since you own it. I'll be at school Wed., Thurs., and maybe Friday next week. When will you be down?Enjoy these last few days....and are the night dreams already beginning? Mine are!
Claudia Sholl is also on Shelfari, but I don't know how you add a person. Maybe you need her email address. I'll go back into the "regular" area and see if I can get it for you.
Drop City sounds like something Dick and I would enjoy reading. Where did you get the title? Thats what I often wish I had remembered or written down...who or where did I get the name?
Karen, all I did was to click on your name where it says "Friends" and I got to your page and comments. I think shorter is better. I get daily practice condensing thoughts, as I have space for maybe 11 or 12 lines in my journal. Just put the cursor on a book title (on my shelf) and you can read what I've written. Its pretty cool!
