Agreed ... reading shouldn't feel like a chore. At least not when you've been out of high school and college for many years now! :)

I haven't read "Sun Also Rises" but I really hate feeling disappointed on works that are considered American Classics. Unfortunately, with a very few exceptions, I find disappointment is the norm. Maybe I just like being entertained these days?

Beck - congrats! You've read 100 in less than a year according to what you've listed on Shelfari!!!

I actually Water for Elephants, but I haven't read it yet. It's definitely on my "to read" list, though! Glad to hear you liked it - it's one of those I picked up as an impulse buy at Costco a year or two ago before I started the moratorium on buying books. :)

Beck - I'm excited to see that you liked Rasputin's Daughter. I completely agree with your review where you wished it was twice as long. I found that it took a little effort for me to stay interested in the beginning, but it wasn't long before it sucked me in and I wanted to read more. I can't wait to see how you like to other two Robert Alexander Romanov books!

Personally, I don't think it matters. They certainly aren't a series per se. The Romanov Bride was my favorite, though!

Cool - can't wait to hear what you think! I'll send you Rasputin's Daughter - so no need to put that on your swaptree list!

Hey Beck! The drive was 12 hours each way. I know most people groan at that, but the one thing Jeff and I really have in common is we enjoy road tripping and spending time together "trapped" in a car. Good music, good conversation and driving through the country is always an amazing experience!

If you like historical fiction, which I know you do, I think you might really like to read Robert Alexander's books, which center around the Russian Revolution and the fall of the Romanovs. I just got done reading The Romanov Bride and found it to be quite mesmerizing, gripping with good commentary on redemption. I'd be curious to hear what you think. I own Rasputin's Daughter, so I can send it to you, but I borrowed the Romanov Bride from my co-worker and checked out The Kitchen Boy from the library. I think the books stand alone, so you don't have to read them in any particular order, but The Romanov Bride was my favorite. I'm not quite done with The Kitchen Boy, but should be tonight.

My co-worker and I are now embarking on the Philippa Gregory Tudors series - The Constant Princess is not my next book (re-reading Wuthering Heights), but my book after. I see that you read the books from that series as well. I'll let you know what I think!

Sounds like Cape Disappointment kind of lived up to its name! Boo!

So glad you liked the Easter card - I know it wasn't holy, but I just couldn't resist applying a Homer Simpsonism to your holiday enjoyment. :) I hope you guys had a nice holiday. Jeff and I rejoiced our salvation and praised our Lord, Jesus, in the great outdoors this weekend. We drove to a place called Land Between the Lakes in Kentucky and Tennessee and had a fabulous camping getaway with just the two of us. Fed our souls and served as a bit of a marriage retreat. Wonderful, relaxing and rejuvinating. Sugar had a fun time too. :)

Sorry, to which of my Becky S friends this is. Are you Becky in Sherwood or Becky in Evertt. I feel so stupid not knowing who you are. I"m gonna guess Becky in Evertt based on the book choices!!
