    Fledgling: Jason Steed

    by Mark A. Cooper
    • Rated 5 stars

Jason Steed: Flegling is a book full of history, action, military combat and of course Karate. The book takes you through Jason's first eleven years of life. He starts out in Hong Kong learning karate, jujitsu and tae kwon do (just to name a few).

Right away, you know there is something different about him. He is stuborn, loves carrot cake and sneaks into a military base at night to play on the flight simulator. This just the beginning though. From this, he ends up beating unthinkable odds.

Along with a little bit of English Royalty added in too!
I won't give away anymore. This story is full of surprises and great moments that will linger in your mind well past the hours you should be sleeping. I actually woke up laughing yesterday morning thinking about the Barbershop scene.

I cried, I laughed, my heart beat a little faster than normal sometimes and I finally decided I liked his father when he let Jason make his own decision in the end.

This is an excellent book for anyone who likes European war stories, young adult novels and books filled with action and adventure. Plus, I see a series in the making. Over all, this is a book that can be easily enjoyed by someone as young as ten but as old as eighty.

I can't seem to finish it. It is well written but not holding my attention. The concept is great and the characters are described well too.

  • Dark & Dangerous: Short Stories That Make Your Skin Crawl...

Various short stories. Some are horrors and I don't recommend them for young children.

  • Guinevere: On the Eve of Legend
    • Rated 5 stars

Guinevere is a young princess who doesn't want to grow up. She wants to stay young for as long as possible but on her 13th birthday--she must become what she fears most and with that fear comes choices that would make any child of thirteen or thirty quake in their books.

If you like stories based on King Arthur and fantasies based upon wizards, creatures of myth and books with excellent vivid imagery then this book is for you. It is clean and suitable for children aged 10 to 12 and even enjoyable for those with a young heart.

I enjoyed this book very much and found it to be quite clever.

  • If I Have a Wicked Stepmother, Where's My Prince?
    • Rated 4 stars

This was a cute novel. At first her life really seemed to suck. She didn't have any furniture, slept on an air mattress, her little step sisters held debates on her deformities and as the story went on, I noticed that in actuality they admired her. Lucy ended up getting what most girls dream of: The hottest boyfriend at school, popular friends who in fact were her friends and a full calendar. She didn't have to be anyone but herself throughout the story and the one time when she did recoil it made her sick to her stomach...

I think it was a fairly good book.

The first 2/3rds of the book were fantastic. I couldn't put it down. The last portion wasn't my style. But, overall it was fantastic book that showed what it must've really been like for persons back in the 1800's as slaves. It is sad really that people have the ability to be so cruel.

The author compares 47's life as a slave to an outer universe with the same problems. Where, the monsters are the Calesh [misspelled I am sure] who want to overrun the universe. He must save the world. And, in the book he and those closest to him run away to Canada--living the rest of their lives out in freedom.
