Sorry it's been so late getting back to you! Every time I would go online, it would be for a quick second and then I would have to run to class, work, or opera practice. I'm doing fairly decent, other than having a horrible cold. I'm just happy I started getting a sore throat the day after my opera performance! Talk about good luck!
I actually don't feel all that bad about missing the Phantom. I mean, sure, I love the Phantom of the Opera, but for some reason, I just feel like that even though the school may have a great music program and adequate enough singers/actors for the roles, it would still be a letdown. Personally, I think that the Phantom is just way too difficult for a college to put on(unless it is like some crazy fantastic arts/music college in NYC or LA). If you look at the Phantom's part, for example, the range that the singer has to have is so large, and not many men can actually play the part, especially if they are not professionals. Oh well, I might be going to see a college production of Sweeney Todd later on this year. And my school is putting on the musical Zombie Prom as well as the play Our Town. Weeee! I'm excited.
If you don't feel like you would like being in the show, don't do it. I know how you feel- in high school, I was so excited to be in my first show, but so many people just didn't care about it as much as I did and didn't put very much effort in, and it wasn't very fun. You can always go see the show instead of being in it, which is always great, since being in it sometimes takes away some of the magic. I tried out for my college's production of Into the Woods last year and got a callback, but I didn't end up making the show. I had some friends who were in it, and after hearing some of the problems that they had with some of the actors, I am kinda glad I wasn't in it. I did end up seeing the show, though. I liked it, but it wasn't as well done as it could have been. Still, seeing shows just always makes me happy!
If you really want a singing career or even just to better your voice, I would invest in taking voice lessons. Even if you don't end up going into a career, you will know how to sing properly, and then you won't ruin your voice in the future. I'm sure you are a good singer, even if you don't want to brag(which you aren't, because I am like that too. There is a difference in being confident and being a total diva, and you are not a diva!) Quick question: what voice part do you usually sing?
Memorization is always difficult, so don't beat yourself up for it! I had so much trouble memorizing my Shakespeare lines my senior year, but once you get them down, you will remember them FOREVER.
That's funny about the Wicked shirt! I wore my shirt one day while I was working at the library and I think about five people asked me if I have seen the show! There is something about Wicked that brings out the niceness of people... I wonder what it is? :P
Oh West Side Story. I think that is one musical that is just way too difficult to pull off, merely because it is so iconic and so emotional- especially for high school shows. So anyway, I have been writing quite a bit. I'm doing NaNoWriMo, but I am very behind and I hate the story right now. Okay, it's not really the story that I hate as much as the way I am writing it. I'm not taking much care about writing it, other than I just want to get it done and then I can edit and rewrite it later. It's been a crazy month to say the least.
Anyways, I got to do some homework! Have a great Thanksgiving!

Hope you'll check this out on my page.

    The Betrayals of Grim's Peak.
"It is not very often that I open a book package in my house and set everything else aside, seeing as that I usually already have a pile to review. But when this one came into my hands, let’s just say that the first page ‘had me at hello,’ (not that I ever like using a Tom Cruise reference.) But to be given a young adult title with no vampires, no ‘yearnings’ of love, no thoughts of suicide - I mean, this was not only a great plot with fantastical characters - but it was also a total breath of fresh air.

I am telling you, readers - take a wee bit of Harry Potter, combine it with Peter Pan’s Lost Boys, throw in some Eragon, and infuse all of that with a new author whose imagination has such an appeal that you will want to read every book in this series - and you end up with the world of Grim’s Peak. The carriage called a ‘Sleeker’ is beyond cool; the dead lake in Hel-mir is frightening and creepy; the Water Arch that protects the city, and even the odd foods from Coral Sweets (candy) to the glasses of creamy whale’s milk - there is not one scene that doesn’t bring you into a seriously glorious world that SHOULD be looked at as the next ‘big’ YA fantasy series! This is a truly great read!"

Hi there! I've been doing well! Happy late birthday!
Ooooo you are SO LUCKY. My regular choir never actually did any traveling. Well, our chamber choir, the one you have to audition for, goes to Chicago and Minneapolis (one a year), so I guess that counts. I hope you have a fabulous time! You saw Jersey Boys twice in one year... not fair. As far as the dilemma of choosing between the choir trip and your show- I would check with the dates first and find out if it does conflict. If it does, you will have to talk to your theatre director and see if there is any possible way that you could miss practice on those days if you really want to go on the trip. If not, then you definitely will have a very hard choice to make. I honestly do not know what I would choose. Sorry if I'm not much help in that department!
As for the coloratura soprano thing, I am not 100% sure. The thing about coloratura sopranos is that some of the qualification, if you would call it that, comes from the fact that the woman can do really fast, really high runs. One question: when you say high F, do you mean the F on the top of the staff or the octave above it? I'm assuming you mean the octave above one, but I just wanted to clarify. Also, did it sound good when you sang? I know you have not had any professional training, but if you can hit that high F while singing properly (head voice, very open throat), then I think that you should probably think about getting some voice lessons. If you can sing that high and well, then you probably have a chance to do some great things with your singing career!
That's fantastic about the lead in your play! Remember: every actor started out with zero experience. Just because you are a newbie doesn't mean you can't rock the show!
So I didn't end up seeing the Phantom at the college up north. Turns out, it was the weekend later than I thought, and I already made plans that I could not get out of. I was a little disappointed, but at the same time I didn't want to spend the entire night comparing it to the London version!
Wicked was FANTASTIC. My friend and I met the cast afterwards, which was AWESOME. I felt bad for Glinda though! She was losing her voice, and you could tell a little bit in her performance (she still sounded amazing though). OH MY GOSH, Fiyero was GORGEOUS. He came onstage in his cart and I'm like, "Yay Fiyero!" and then he stood up and turned around... my mouth dropped and all I could think of the entire play was how I wanted to meet this man. UGH. I did meet him afterwards for like two seconds, which was just enough for me! :)
My opera scene is going well! Except I think I am getting a cold, because during practice the other day I started singing and the most horrible sound came out. I stopped and I was like, "What on earth was that?" And I knew it was bad because my director gave me the strangest look when I started singing. It might just be because the day before my friend and I were belting "Defying Gravity" at 3 in the morning, but that is just a guess! ;)
So what else is new in your life?

Hey! My life is going pretty good, actually! School is great, and I'm really excited because I am learning Greek right now. I'm a bit disappointed because I got in the Women's Choir again, but I'm gonna try to stay positive. I'm glad that you are having a great senior year! How's the college search going? Pirates and Harry Potter, WOOP! I cried during Harry Potter... all three times I went.
Jersey Boys sounds like so much fun! It sounds like just a giant concert, which is one of my favorite things! I haven't heard the soundtrack and I don't really know the storyline, so you'll have to tell me. But anything that has guys singing in it sounds like a great show to me! ;)
That's disappointing that Meet Me in St. Louis wasn't good! I'm glad your friends did good, but it always is disappointing when the lead roles don't do as well as they should. I understand how you feel- I went to go see Guys and Dolls at a local college and I was really excited because it is one of my favorite shows. The guys in the show, as well as the actress who played Adelaide, did a great job, but the lead girl(Sarah Brown) was just AWFUL. Whenever she started singing, my friends and I started cringing. Plus, it was obvious that the other girls did not know their dancing parts very well. My friends actually walked out in the middle of the performance because they could not stand it. I stayed, but only because I had to write a paper about it for class.
Anyway! I love Little Shop of Horrors! It was one of the first shows I've seen and became one of my favorites. TRY OUT FOR RENT!!!! PLEASE!!! Oh my word, the music in that show is SO FANTASTIC!!!!!! My friends and I just took a road trip to right by Minneapolis, MN to go to the Renaissance Festival, and the entire way we listened to musicals. My friend started playing RENT, and we all just started singing and dancing(in the car, yes. I was driving, so I was just bobbing my head and tapping the steering wheel, haha).
Don't let that one girl ruin the show for you. It's such a great show, albeit sad. A college about an hour away is doing that show sometime this year, so I think I am going to go see it too! In a few weeks, a college is going to put on Phantom of the Opera, so I am super excited to see that! I'm a little worried though, because that show needs such fantastic singers that any off person will probably ruin the show. I've heard that the school has a great music program, so I'm gonna stay positive!
OOOOO!! Guess what! My friend got me a ticket to go with her to see Wicked up in Illinois on October 30! I am SO EXCITED!!!! It's about 8 hours away for us, so we're gonna leave early Saturday the 29th and drive over there. We're gonna stay over at a hotel and then see the show on Sunday night. We're insane and are going to drive back that night, so we're gonna get back to school at about 6 AM on Monday. Crazy? Yes, I know.
I'm in the Opera Theatre Workshop. Basically we get split up into small groups, i.e. duets, trios, and quartets, and then each group is assigned a song to perform in our showcase in November. I'm singing in a trio with another girl and guy, and we are doing the trio from "The Old Maid and the Thief." And guess who I am? Yep, Miss Todd, the old maid. It's not a well-known opera, since it was originally made for radio. I couldn't even find the song anywhere! I'm not really all that happy with this, but I'll just have to deal. The problem I have is the fact that the guy I'm singing with doesn't like me and I don't know the girl at all. I just feel like the director took the leftover people and put us in a group and gave us a song that isn't all that great. Honestly, all the other operas that people are singing from are all well-known. Sorry, I'm a little down right now. It's not my style at all, plus the part I'm singing is for an alto, and I'm a soprano... I'm a bit confused.
Anyway, I hope you are having a great day!

    OHMYGOD YESSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
OK SO IT WAS AFTER THE DANCE SHOW ON SATURDAY NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'MA STOP TYPING IN ALL CAPS NOW SO ITS EASIER TO READ SO JUST PRETEND I STILL AM!!!!!!!! :DDDDDD
Since Saturday night is the last dance show (The dance shows are friday and saturday night) once the curtain closes after bows everyone sticks around on stage to say goodbye to everyone and everything. Its really sad (especially for the seniors) so a lot of people (both teachers and dancers)(and including me) cry a lot. So I was looking for Blake and Amber and their group cuz I was NOT gonna let them leave without saying goodbye and I had said on Friday night that I wanted a hug from Blake. I didn't know at that point if I would have the courage to ask him for one, but I was still gonna say goodbye to him. So Blake and Amber were saying goodbye to their two other friends in their main group of friends so I just waited a minute or so until they were finished. Then I gave Amber a hug (I'm really upset cuz she's a senior) and like hugs after dance shows are different than normal hugs. They usually last longer or way longer (depending on how well you know the person or how much you like hugging people in general or whatever) just because you're upset its over and you're gonna miss everybody and everything. So my hug with Amber was kind of long. Then I turned to Blake and was like, "Can I have a hug?" and by now I'm about on the verge of tears. Then he hugs me and it lasted the same time, if not longer, than my hug with Amber, and it was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Then when the hug was over I was even closer to crying and I was like, "Bye Blake..." in a whisper and like I don't know if he heard it but you could hear by my voice that I was about to cry. Then I said goodbye to my teacher and everything and my other friends, including my one friend Sarah who's also a senior and by the time I said goodbye to her her and me were both crying. Then I went back up to my dressing room and no one else was up there cuz they had all left already and so I changed and got all my stuff really fast and went downstairs. I said goodbye to my other 2 teachers who I hadn't gotten to before and then I went outside to look for people that I knew. (I had heard people screaming my name in the audience) I couldn't find anyone and I didn't know where my mom was so I went to where I figured her car would be. I found the car but she wasn't in it so I just chucked all my stuff next to the car and went to look for her. Then I finally found her and she was randomly on the phone with my dad and I talked to him and you could definitely tell I was crying and then after that I started sobbing. I told mom about the people screaming my name and how I couldn't find anybody I knew enough that would do that so she let me go back and look to see if I missed anybody the first time I looked at the crowd of people waiting outside the door we come out of. I couldn't find anybody who I thought would but then I found this guy named Coleman who I kind of like and I was talking to him and he was asking me if I was ok cuz I was sobbing and then I said yeah but he kept asking so I told him why and then I gave him 2 hugs (one when I first saw him, and one when I left once I was finished talking to him). Then I went to an ice cream parlor cuz there's one nearby and a bunch of us do that after the show but on the way over mom was scolding me for crying and telling me that I wouldn't want people to see me like that and everything and I was like, "Mom! Everyone's crying!" cuz my family always comes on Friday night so they never see anyone crying. But yeah, it was an amazing night and one of the best days of my life. ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
