    hi,
well, you obviously saw that the book didn't appeal to me. I'm not counting the reasons why, just didn't do it for me. But it's all very subjective so, yes, I think you should read it, just too make your own idea what is all about (and the book is quite small actually). To tell you the truth, I don't like Gogol's style all that much. Definitely not my favorite Russian author.

Sorry, I didn't understand what you meant about "south America..."

    well done :)

    bye

    Check out:

    1. The Forever Series by Joe Haldeman (Forever Peace/ Forever Free/ Forever War)
    2. Tau Zero by Poul Anderson (if you get it, or look for an ebook online)
    3. Altered Carbon by Rochard Morgan
    4. All My Sins Remembered by Joe Haldeman
    5. Behold the Man by Michael Moorcock
    6. The Foundation Series by Isaac Asimov

The list can go on, but this is fairly representative of old & new stuff - the romantics and the cyber-punks.

Thanks for the recommendation, Shivam. Yes, I've read the book a while back and enjoyed it thoroughly.

Am concentrating on sci fi these days, as that is what I really adore.

    thanks,
well, it depends on its length, but usually I like lounging when reading and you can't do that in front of a pc, can you?
but I'll try to give it a go.

    Hi Shivam

I'm into parallel reading too :) - currently on Berlin (Antony Beevor), The Drought (J.G. Ballard) and The Difficulty of Being Good (Gurcharan Das). My primary interests are SF and WW2. However, I recently came to know of "The Difficulty..." being a good read, and picked up a mint/ autographed copy from Saket for 200 bucks :). Actually, the book is quite decent in its treatment of the subject.

There are these days when I lapse into old reading - William, Tintin, Asterix, Biggles, etc. - especially when I look up my son's collection (we're trying to catalogue some of that too). They're reads that bring back memories from nearly three decades ago - LOL.

I noticed you're on Joyce and Orwell - both very fine tomes!

I'd recently done a re-read of Premchand - Godaan and Seva Sadan - I fully agree - the guy is amazing...

Where do you pick your books in Gurgaon? I visit Landmark, but the sale's nearly done with now, and I do not know of any decent stores otherwise.

I have read my fair share of everything, including fantasy. I see that you are mentioning Germany in your conversations. Do you happen to be a Beatsteaks or Die Arzte fan?

    hey

well, the book is written by Kristiyana Valcheva, but as far as i know it exists only in german and french language ...
it's on my list, i gave it 3 stars (but you can learn a lot about bulgarians from it :) )

sorry, can't tell you a good book about german life or language - i learned both by doing ...
however, the Goethe institut acts as an cultural ambasador of germany (including training in the language) and is as far as i have heared quite good
you can take a look at http://www.goethe.de/enindex.htm
maybe you can find something usefull there

here also the url of the institut in india
    http://www.goethe.de/ins/in/lp/enindex.htm

    hope this helps a bit

    hi
    yeah, i'm ok too
just finished a book about the bulgarian nurses in Lybia. Surely there was a ghostwriter, for it is well written. Poor women had over 8 years of hell ...

I prefere reading to listening to audio books ... find it more enjoyable somehow

    have a nice day :)
