My mother got me started on books when I was very young. She would read to me books like Watership Down, Charlotte's Web, Wind in the Willows and The Incredible Journey. I guess you could say my earliest experiences with literature were all sentient animal stories. Reading isn't easy for me, for a number of reasons. I have chromographia, which makes all letters appear to me in color, and I have a very visual imagination. I will try to visualize everything I read to so much detail that the story goes on in my mind regardless of words on the page. When I snap back into focus, I realize that I'm still only a few pages in and I have no idea how much was written and how much I made up. I much prefer nonfiction books, because I go to them when I need to know a fact and I'm less likely to take an imaginary journey while reading. When I do get the urge to read fiction, I make it worth my while. I go for classics that I can plow through in one sitting (even if that one sitting ends up being 2 days).
My book selection now consists of roleplaying books for several systems. I am a gamer! RAWR! I'm also an artist, and games have always been a great inspiration for my art. I graduated this year with my BFA and my goal is to make my living on game-related artwork, whether that's concept art for video games, illustration for books, or the graphics for some browser-based game.
