Got back yesterday evening from NY. It was pretty good. Got alot of goodies and met some really wonderful new writers and some already established ones. I won two of the raffle drawings. One was a bag with a book from the Author and lots of little goodies like notes pad, pen, key chain,,ect., the other was a leather box from Jacqueline Frank with one of her newest books, a book bag and book cover and a whole lot more little goodies. All in all we had a good time. We actually got to play tourist this time. We went on one of the open double decker buses and got to see alot of NY city.
I adore my hubby most of the time..lol. He's a great guy but like I said before he is a workaholic..if he's not at work then he's thinking about and talking about it. Drives me a little nuts sometimes. I think its great that he loves what he does but what is the use of working so hard if you can't sit back just a little once in awhile and enjoy all that you've done? Wow High School Sweethearts..thats so great! You don't hear much about that working out. We've been together for almost 17 yrs and Married 15..I couldn't ever see myself with someone else. I think if we would of gone to the same schools we might of been like that also.
I re-read BDB right before the last book came out so that I could refresh myself on stuff. The series I'm wanting to re-read right now is the Fever Series by Karen Marie Moning. I went thru them so quickly I'm sure I missed stuff. Right now I'm still working on Gena Showalter's YA book..its pretty good so far.. I do have tons of new stuff that I can't wait to get too now. At each of the meals we had they had given us at least 2 books (new ones) and then there were also so many give aways that I almost had to go buy a new suitcase to get home. Not that I'm complaining.
You asked about AAD. I'm not a real writer. I write a little but only for myself and family, mostly my 13 yr old wants me to write for her... so every so often I put something down quickly..short stories. Maybe someday I'll show someone them other than family.
I use to think that I wanted someone to share everything with..then I had someone (ex) that was way too into my life and doing things together ALLLL the time. It drove me nuts and I realized that I wanted someone to share my life with but at the same time wouldn't mind doing some things apart. Oh..and I so know what you mean about them growing up and still needing stuff. My oldest son is almost 25 and he and his family are always wanting and needing things. Not that its a bad thing but I thought it was not going to be quite like this.
Knew you'd like Cat and Bones. They are some of my favorite charactors..well Bones is. Cat slowly grew on me. I didn't like her too well in the first book. I haven't read any of Lynsay Sands books but I have some on my TBR list.
Hi Cindy! I still have smaller kids to they are the ones I have to lavish my attention on.. just save a little for the hubby. He's a great guy but a workaholic. At least I don't feel like I'm neglecting him. Its one of the reasons our marriage works. We have such different interest only sharing a few of the same likes. That way we don't get bored with each other and thank goodness neither of us are afraid to do something on our own. It'll be crazy when the kids grow up and head off to college somewhere, I'll not know what to do with myself. Nah..not really..I know alot of things that I can do to keep myself busy.:)
My parents are both living but both are in very bad health and I live 1200 miles away from them. It makes it tough as we are a pretty close family. Even though you'll notice time and time again how I'll say they are all crazy..I think we are all a little bit that way. hehe. Keeps it from being boring I guess.
My birthday is the first part of Oct. I'll be turning 42. I sooooo want to get a kindle but keep putting it off. The hubby said to go get one but I always find some reason to spend the money on the kids or something along those lines. I think secretly I'm holding out for an ipad, but I'm not gona ask for it..they are still to high. So just incase I forget to tell you in Oct.....Happy early Birthday. 50's a big one. Better tell ya that I'm one of those people that doesn't mind birthday too much. Not that I celebrate them very often but getting older is just something that happends. I've got this one friend that every yr about a week before her B-Day she gets so weepy and depressed because she's a yr older. NOT ME!! I'm just glad that I made it to another birthday with most of my marbles still with me. lol
I buy probably 90% of my books at one of the two used book stores close to my house. Our library also has a room where people will donate books and the library sells them for almost nothing. I've only found a few in there but I always check it anyway. When you get your kindle you'll be amazed at how you can find and get books for nothing. I down load alot to my PC from E-Reader store and also from Barnes and Noble ebooks. B&N has a new free e-book every Friday. Their prices are pretty good too. I also think that you can borrow from others who have the Kindle..but not sure. If you ask around here I'm sure someone could tell you alot of places to go and get free books for it.
Headed to New York next weekend for a Con with one of my frieds. I can't wait. Its AAD - Authors After Dark/Romance Unlimited. We went last yr. It was my first writers/readers conference and it was also the first yr for this conference. It was great and didn't cost me an arm and leg like RT does. I guess RT cost somewhere around $450. just to register and that doesn't cover hotel, food or extras. I think I spend about $400.00 total last yr at AAD and only that much because I had to buy some of the books that I didn't have and reallllly needed. They included something like 5 meals also and we came home with tons of free stuff. Great fun.
Sorry about the books. I get carried away.
My mom really likes them. She's the one that got me reading in the first place when I was little. There wasn't much she wouldn't let me read if I could explain to her what I'd read she'd let me read it..unless it was too adult(sex-that is). Horror was her main like in books and movies. I'm now looking around for a second hand set of the Sookie Stackhouse books. I just can't let my set go, not even on a loaner, I'm afraid I won't get them back.
I finally finished Larissa Ione's 'Sin Undone'. It was really good. I've been really slow at getting through a book her lately. I think I burnt myself out. I was reading 2 to 4 books a week there for awhile. Can you say addicted?? Yep, that was me. I didn't watch tv or want to go to the movies..just read.
Love that: the book club leader. Funny I sometimes feel that way too with friends and family. Even my daughters friends are asking about books that they might want to read. My daughter will finish a book and then have me help her look threw our shelf for her next one she might want to read. When I get to the book store I will buy some ahead that I think she might like so I have them when she's ready. I'm pretty good at getting what she likes so. She's a paranormal romance (YA of course) fan too but she likes the ones with a little mistery in them or a wierd twist. I figure if its something I'd be interested in reading she'd like it also. Same with my mom. But I have a friend that leans more strongly toward the romance and away from any paranormal. She doesn't like monsters that are scary. She's more a a Stephenie Meyer's fan. I like those but found that like most I wanted more. She's a hard one for me to help because I don't read the plain romance very often. So I've had to ask other friends what is good. I've tried to get her to get on here but she's dragging her feet. Not sure why.
I should of warned you that Frost isn't romance in the regular sense. I guess the biggest draw for me is the humor and the romance comes in later. I don't like the mushy stuff too much. Not that I want it to be all wambam thank you mam either.
I just got my mom started on Sookie Stackhouse by Charlaine Harris. I sent her the first 2. I also sent her my whole set of BDB. She's read about 1/2 of BDB already and just finsihed both Sookie books I sent you. She usually only reads horror..Stephen King and such, her favorite being Dean Koontz.
Keep reading the Frost books its picks up in the romance department. I love the humor she puts in her books. I have only read one book by Angela Knight ..it was okay. To be honest it was one of those that I don't really remember. As for Sherilyn Kenyon..I like her stuff. Infact my daughter just read her YA book and loved it. I'm going to try to get around to reading it but havent yet. When she was at our local Books-A-Million I was able to meet her and anothe author that was there. She's very nice. Right now I'm about 1/2 way thru Larissa Ione's - Sin Undone. Its pretty good. I like her stuff but I can't say she's my favorite.
You said you read Twilight. It's YA. There are alot of good YA books out there. I like throwing a few of them in between series to sort of break things up. They are lighter reading but no less entertaining. Mostly I read them after I've read a really good series because I find it hard to go on to another adult book right after.
Yeah I've heard a few who really don't like Sookie or Trueblood. I do. I love the humor that Charlaine Harris puts into those books. But hey, not everyone can like the same books. Thatd be pretty boring. You should check out her web site. That way you can read a little about the books and see if they are anything you'd like. I love it when an author throws in humor. I think you said something about that one time. Thats why I think you'll like Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress books. Her charactor Bones just makes me smile.
The Fallen Angel Series is the Ward book I was talking about. It's called Covet. I didn't like it as well as I liked the Brother's books but it was okay..I think the series will get alot better. I'm not sure when the next one will be coming out. I guess I'll have to look it up.
To be honest I've been really lazy with my reading this summer. I was so busy with the grandson I was too worn out to get into the books like usual. Been doing alot of movies this summer.
I know what you mean about Vishous, he's yummy :) I'm going to go through withdrawals when I'm done with the rest of the books and have to wait for the new one! I had the first two Laura Adrian books in hardcover and couldn't find the rest in hardcover until recently (had to buy them used) so I can start reading them soon now that I have the series so far. I will definitely keep you posted on my thoughts!
Welcome to the group and Shelfari! I started reading the BDB series last month after feeling totally left out whenever someone talked about the books. I was hooked from the first book and have fallen for the brothers! I don't think I can choose just one, they all have something special. I thought Rhage was going to be my fave...then I read Zsadist and I really liked him too! I love them all. I'm currently reading Phury's book, just about 100 pages in, I really hope he gets his happy ending, he deserves it above all of them, he's sacrificed the most! I ordered the next two books and hope they arrive before I finish this one. I am a huge fan of Kerrelyn Sparks I love her Love at Stake Series, although there are still a few I haven't gotten to, I started with book 3 not knowing it was a series! I haven't read any Lynsay Sands but have a few of her books on my ereader to get to. I bought the Lara Adrian Series but have not read those yet either, I have a long list I need to work on! You must read Jeaniene Frost, her series is my second fave, the Brothers take the first spot in my book! Looking forward to chatting with you more!
Hi,Cindy, welcome to the group.Took a look at your shelf.I really like Sparks and Sands books too.I love their sense of humour and lightheartedness. Why not add them or other 4or 5 star books to our group shelf.Just click on add to group and its easy.Agin, welcome, and happy reading!
If you like a few laughs you'll love Night Huntress books. Bones is a hoot and sexy to boot. (J. Frost)
Maybe they should make the BDB into an HBO show like they did for Sookie Stackhouse books. The HBO series is very different from the books but still sooo good. If they put it on there then they wouldn't have to worry about how adult it was. Oh don't you LOVE the angel that has joined the brothers? He's funny. I didn't love her spin off book about the angels. thought it was just ok.
My oldest son is almost 25, my daughter is 13 almost 14 and my youngest is 10. Yep, I spread them far apart. It has been very much like raising 2 different families. Ya know I'm not sure who these women who wait until they are in the 40's to start having kids do it. One of my best friends has a son the same age as my youngest son and she'll be 50 this Oct. Heck I'm a grandma now from my oldest son. He has a 2 yr old. I was baby sitting him up until last week when the daughter in law was going to summer classes. Thankgoodness that is over. I adore him but I am too old to chase after a 2 yr old and a hyper one at that.
I'm not sure if I've read anything by Kerrelyn Sparks. I'll have to check some out. Do you ever read any other Young Adult books. Like I said before I have a 13 yr old who's a nut when it comes to books. She devours them so quickly. So I read alot of her stuff also so she'll have someone to talk to about things that happens in them. If you haven't read any of Cassandra Clare's books you really should. They are City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass.
I don't think they'll have too much trouble with the more adult scenes when they do that movie because even in the book they don't go into great detail about it. As for the baby being born that might be a bit more messy but I bet they can do it fine. I can't wait for it to come out!
Oh you'll like KMM. She is one of my very favorites. I like alot of others also started out with Twilight. I still like them but needed something more. So I went from Twilight straight to BDB. Wow. It was a good change. From there I was hooked on Paranomal romance. J. Frost is a series you really have to try also. If you were to ask for recommandations it would probably go something like this..for paranormal romance with a fun light twist Sookie Stackhouse. They are quick easy reads. But some poeple don't like them, next I would tell you that if you want Highlanders or Fae then you need to read KMM (Karen M. Moning) I love her charactor Gerichol Barrons the best, he's in the Fever books, but all of her Highlander men are wonderful also. Then J. Frost..oh she's got a charactor named Bones and for quite awhile I was in mad lust with him..(yes, crazy I know but I just loved the way she wrote him). Have you read any Larissa Ione? She writes the Demonica series. They are VERY good also. Sorry if I'm over loading you with books to read.
Yep, pretty sure that the next BDB book is about Payne. I love her charactor Xhex. Who is your favorite BDB Brother? I have a few different once. I really like them all (well mostly) I liked Phury until I read his book but and I can say it was my least favorite of all the books but it still wasn't bad. I love Vishious, MJ, Qhuinn, Z is also up there on my list. I don't like alot of the shellans as well as the brothers. A few of them seem sort of whinny and whimpy. But all in all I really like the books. Infact I just sent the 1/2 of my set to my mother in another state. She has read the first ones and really liked them.
You asked about pictures. I usually get mine by searching images on google or there are a few other sites like photobucket that are great for these types. I'm in a group that has contests once a month, usually for whatever holiday or special thing that falls in that month. Its fun. I don't always do it but when I can. My youngest son seen some of the photos I had been going thru to find one I liked and he wanted to know if my hubby got mad because I was looking at all those mostly naked guys. I explained that I was just having fun with some friends and trying to find a picture that others would like.
I will try Lara Adrian again. I did like her stuff when I read it. But it didn't stick with me like some of the other books I've read. I did like Tegan (I think was his name) and a few of the others I really liked. out of the books that I did read I didn't love Niko or Rico..he was the one that was scared. Not sure why but his story didn't seem as good as the others I read.
I was school clothes shopping with my kids today and my teen daughter wanted to check out the stuff they had a Hot Topic. While I was waiting for her some teen girls started talking to me about Twlight. At first I didn't know what to say to them, but they were sweet and I didn't want to seem like some creepy older lady that was crazed with the Twilight stuff. But by the time we parted ways they knew that I liked them. I have to say out of the younger people in the movies I really like Emmett and Jasper. Of course I like Jacob but when my 13 yr old is in love with him, I won't let myself be hot and bothered by a little boy..(at least that she will ever know about) lol. I wish they'd make the BDB books into books. They'd be sooo good. The only trouble would be charactors. There would be alot of opinions on who should and shouldn't play the parts.
I buy alot of my books from a used book dealer and also from Books a Million and Barns and Noble when they go on sale. I sometimes find them at Sam's Club for a couple of dollars cheaper also. I recently found out that you can download e-reader to your computer for free and E-reader store and Barns and Noble have cheap and also FREE downloads of certain books. Every Friday Barns and Noble puts another free one on. Oh and a girl also said that most local libraries have e-books so that you can borrow them online and its free. Some authors will also have times when they will put free down loads out there for their fans. How great is that. I also borrow books from the library too but they usually don't have any of the new ones. We live in a pretty busy area and the library is less than a yr old. They are just now getting all their shelfs filled. But its nice.
You should try Jeaniene Frost. I love her stuff. You said you liked historical romance also, have you read Karen Marie Moning? She writes a series called Highlanders..wowooooo is all I have to say. They are great and they tie in with her Fever series which is another one of my very favorites. I haven't read any Lynsay Sands although I hear good things about her writing.
Have you read read any of the Sookie Stackhouse books. I like those. They are maybe not my favorites but they are high on my list. Oh also if you like historical you should try The Gardella Vampire Chronicles by Colleen Gleason if you haven't read them before. I read a historical time travel/romance book a while back. The Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. I only read the first one in the series but I have the next 3. They are pretty big books though. I have to be in the mood for them.
I put off reading Lora Leigh for a long time. I like them okay but not my favorites. Like I said they are sort of been slow going for me reading them. I've read a few of Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed. They were good. I can't say they were my favorites but I think that has alot to do with the fact that I had just finished reading Night Huntress series and they just didn't get my attention the same way.
I think if she wrote a book about Qhuinn and Blay it would sell. Just look at how the other books have took off, but that being said..I think some people would surely toss a big fit over the content. There is always some who will read a book or watch a movie and then say how bad it is because they don't agree with it. Just like some people will complain about the music that comes out. My opinion is that if you don't like it thats fine..DON'T listen, read or watch what offends you. I don't want someone telling me I have to do something that I find offensive..if I don't like something I just don't mess with it. Same with the people that complain about their children being exposed to such stuff. Sorry the world is full of things your kids are being exposed to that you have no idea about. I have kids and when I don't like them to watch, read or listen to something I just don't let them..easy peasy. Sorry, I'll get off my soap box now. hehe.
I love the friction between those two charactors. I hate where an author has to put her charactors into a box to suit the people that are buying the books. I hope she does a book on those two.
Who else do you like to read? Right now I'm reading Harmony's Way by Lora Leigh. Its been slow going but I like it. They are pretty hot books if you haven't read them yet. Next I'm going to read Jeaniene Frost's Eternal Kiss of Darkness. I just love her stuff.
