I’ve always loved reading from a young age. I loved little series like the Boxcar Children, Cam Jansen, Magic Tree House, and Ramona. I even was obsessed with short poetry such as Shel Silverstein. I remember in fourth grade, my teacher constantly badgered me to read a variety of books instead of re-reading my old faves like Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl. Although I’m always picking up new books I love to go back and revisit my favorites. My mom and I sometimes read the same series so I love to discuss the events and our ideas about the books together. Through my love of reading, my vocabulary increased and I began to take an interest in writing stories. The books that I read influenced the subjects and ideas of my early stories. I’m still influenced by the books I read, but I haven’t been writing as much. I find it more enjoyable to escape into the world an author has already written for me. My stories still live on in my daydreams though. I am typically into fantasy, action, and adventure books. The lure of new worlds and fast-paced action that I know I could never replicate is strong to me, especially when I am stressed or weary of the worries of this world. My favorite books have changed since 3rd grade though. I enjoy reading the work of authors like Anthony Horowitz, Garth Nix, Anne Rinaldi, Suzanne Collins, and J. K. Rowling. Although, I prefer reading fantasy, action, and adventure, I am open to reading any genre anyone cares to recommend. « less
