I saw in the Random Group that you were looking for books for your 13 year old daughter. I'm a 14 year old, and homeschooled, so I thought I'd give you a few reccomendations.
There's an amazing set of books called 'The Vetitas Project' by Frank E. peretti. It's only 2 books, so it's not a huge series. I saw on your stipulations that you weren't looking for a series, but it's only 2 books.
Personally, I like reading a series. One book doesn't hold enough for me, but I completely understand wanting something different. Novels are great!
I'd suggest anything by Joan Lowry Nixon, Margarate Peterson Haddix, or Patricia Rielly Giff.
I saw that you like Frank McCourt! My mother read Angela's Ashes, and she told me the pats that are good for a 14 year old to hear. I enjoy things about Ireland, so she told me what it was like. The Pig's Head was a funny chapter!
Hi Karen, i agree with you about No 1 ladies. I do not love the series, but someone recommended the books on audio to me. The narrator is real good and they're good in the car listening, because you do not have to listen too hard! HBO did a series based on the 1st couple of books, starring Jill scott.
Karen, I sent you an invitation to be my friend about a week ago. Did you get it? You have to confirm me as your friend- right now the request is still pending. On your home page, under profile click on friends. You can also email people you want to be friends with & invite them. So far I don't have too many friends. Their are tons of discussions in the community section. Mostly I've been listing my books and reading & writing reviews. Just like anything on the internet, it can become a time waster if you let it! But I do enjoy it.
