Naw man, I thought extremely loud and incredibly close was bad. I felt like it was waaay too arbitrarily sentimental and that all the emotions were contrived. The main problem for me was that I didn't connect with any of the characters who basically just sobbed and mopped through the entire thing. I appreciate how the author tries to be experimental with the printed page by adding pictures and such, but I pretty much don't think it adds anything to the actual story. So to me he is just being experimental for being experimentals sake, which is a waste I think. For example, I hate hate hated the parts where the text starts to overlap to the point that you can't read it, and I think it's pointless when the character who doesn't speak starts typing numbers over a pay phone. I guess I felt that the book had potential but it didn't really live up to it, you know?
The Lincoln Lawyer is very good. I'm about half way through it. I have the movie from the library so trying to get through the book so I can watch the movie. The book you are reading is on my list also. Paul said he didn't like it. But I also want to read it before I watch the movie.
