“The author presents an important point about colonial history, slave history, and the legacy of slavery on American society throughout the Americas. However, he did not have to beat me over the head with it. I appreciate subtlety and some of the passages were so clever and able to show Endore's view with wit and bite. Yet, at other points, Endore goes on these long tangents in which he suspends the whole myth and mystique of story and simply goes on a long, very obvious attack on his contemporary society. It was a book that could be a classic today if it had had a better editor and a bit more timeless appeal without so many direct diatribes against the issues of his day.”
