“"Once" is about a Jewish boy named Felix who lived during the Holocaust. Felix escapes from an orphanage. He then sets off to find his parents, not knowing anything about what was happening to Jews at the time. As he is on his journey he comes across a burning house. There he finds two adults and one girl lying in the grass. Both of the adults are dead, but Felix escapes with the girl, Zelda. Together they are captured by the Nazis. They were rescued by a dentist named Barney. He takes them into hiding. They hide in a basement, that is in a ghetto.
Morris Gleitzman is the author of this book. This book falls under the genre of historical fiction. The book was sad yet absorbing. Tension builds as read this book.
I would recommend this book to anyone that is mature and in fifth grade or older. A historical fiction book is a book based on events in history, but parts of the book are made up, such as names and exact events or dates. It could also be an interpretation or a view on the event. There are even more ways to write a historical fiction. I'm not usually interested in history, but I liked this book.”
