I'm an old soul who is addicted to reading and beads. I love jewelry making when I'm not busy reading or talking about books. My nose has been stuck in a book since I was a little kid. While most kids were excited to head to the park or birthday parties I was excited when my mom took us to the library. I've read sooooo many books, that sometimes... more »

I thought this was really good. How would you survive a plane crash if you are left on your own in the wilderness? Who knows what to do to survive? Brian has to figure this all out. I thought the author did a good job of taking Brian through the steps of figuring these things out. I enjoyed “meeting” the various wildlife along the way, as well. It wasn't real fast paced, but I still found it interesting, and it was still quick to read, as it is a YA book.

    Whose Names Are Unknown

A remarkable book that should be taught in our schools. This is the story of the depression/dust bowl years that took away the work and dignity of the people who had to fight to get it back.

It was a simple story, and I have to admit to getting annoyed plenty of times with some of the attitudes, due to the culture and time frame that the book encompasses. I listened to the audio. It fluctuated back and forth between simply ok or good, for me.

Beatrice, the queen, has taken ill and Morveren has an object that might help Beatrice recover.

It's been a few years since I read the first book in the series, but I don't think I liked this one as much. I'm odd with fantasy – I like some (more likely YA or urban, and usually fairy tales or retellings), but usually not the real “traditional” fantasy. This felt a little more like the traditional fantasy that I'm not as crazy about, mixed with adventure. I quite enjoyed some parts of this, but then lost a bit of interest in other parts. I will still probably try the third book in the series, at least, before giving up on it.

    The Sisterhood

I loved both the books by Helen Bryan. I wish this had been a true story, because it is a new way to look at religion and families. It goes back and forth in time and place which requires concentration to pick back up the threads, but brings them all together in the end. A beautiful story.

It was a fun book, though for some reason (I’m not sure why), my mind did wander a bit, so I had to go back and reread parts. It may have been just me getting distracted. I liked the idea behind the book and it really was a fun read. I do plan to read the next book with the same three characters.

Megan S: I had the same mind-wandering problem! I put it down to waffling between books at the time. Basically I liked the idea of the book better than its execution, but I'd still like to read more one of these days. By the way, if you look up the author's blog, he does some excellent things with horribly uncomfortable book cover poses.

THAT was 22 hours ago (as I type this).

This is my first audio book. Other than the narrator had a squeaky voice and did lousy accents, it was a good book. After half the discs I resigned myself to her voice. Could have been better with an appropriate male voice, as most of the characters were male. I also didn't realize that this was the second in a series. Howeve, it wasa fun wild adventure/thriller. Dr. Rebecca Monroe and Sergeant Brandt are the main characters, recovering from a past adventure and their broken engagement ( he had to marry a pregnant daliance of his). But they must work together to save the world from a bio toxin which will kill all meat/ dairy animals in the world. And, they must find the original Ten Commandments hidden by Moses. A fanatical group called the Disciples is looking for both. The story starts in Dr.Monroe's lab, runs through the North Sea to Red Square, down through Slovakia and ends up in the Dead Sea. Sgt. Brandt has his black ops squad with him and they merrily explode their way to the end. Did I mention Dr. Monroe is a forensic historian?Lots of fun, but it for hard line Christians, as it could upset their belief system a tad bit at the end. I enjoyed this over 4 months as it was my driving audiobook. (I did get upset when I had to continually turn it off at my destination points.)
