I earned my Ph.D. (later in life) in Early American and European history, 2005. Graduating with honors in 1992, and headed to Harvard in the Autumn, an industrial accident, at my place of employment, (just two months after graduating), left me seriously injured for many years.
I went on to teach Liberal Studies and was praised for my Socratic Method. Although my favorite course to teach was Western Civilization, I taught many others: Philosophy, Ethics, Humanities, American History, Political Science, Introduction to Anthropology, Introduction to Sociology, Sociology, Native American Studies, and American History. I was also recognized for developing an abridged critical thinking mini-course, as an introduction to all classes. Critical thinking essays were the only exam formats. This provided tangible results for measuring learning.
Prior to Academia I spent more than twenty years working with and advocating for persons with Mental Retardation. As a reformer, insuring and improving quality of life, being outspoken about Human Rights, and giving voice to those who had none, my career suffered. Ironically, now receiving disability, (due to complications of that original injury), I now find no recompense, for obeying my conscience, and being a dutiful citizen.
However, I remain active, at least in cyberspace, advocating for Student Loan Justice, and my hearts' desire, educational reform. I have written a Bill awaiting Legislative Sponsorship. With more than thorough data to support it. i have also, founded CEDR: Citizens for an Educated and Democratic Republic. My motivation is due to witnessing and teaching, K-12 and college. I have seen the quality of education, reflected in my American History books, (classical education of the Founders), that has been diluted and diminished, to Liberal Studies. With academic degrees granted for what used to be called "occupational trade." The sad part is, that the job market for these trades, are not only hard to come by, the student loans required to obtain them are inflated.
Lastly, my books and CEDR's efforts, demonstrate the causes and motivations, behind a poorly informed electorate, failure of Congressional oversight of Student Loan greed, while Congressmen and Congresswomen, become millionaires. There now, is left standing, an educational system of diminished wisdom, and capacity, that is intent on raising a nation of customers, not citizens.

Dr. O'Lalor is the author of The History of Virtue and Corruption: Western Civilization, from Athens to America, The Never Realized Republic: Political Economy and Republican Virtue, and Shrouded in Mist: Physics and the Archaic Symbology of Metaphysics. For a live (recorded) interview about Shrouded in Mist, please visit: http://traffic.libsyn.com/xzone/20100923_seg2.mp3
He also has interviewed on other shows, including Chicago's Mancow. Although the interview seemed to drone on, referencing both The Never Realized Republic and the The History of Virtue and Corruption, it was yet, amidst the roar of Chicago's rush hour, that one final attention grabbing statement, which seemed to "finally" excite the Host, as he exclaimed, "You heard it here first, when elected, the President has two choices, create an atmosphere of fear and anxiety, or one of social progress." How and why is another matter but is explained fully in both books.
As one reviewer stated, regarding The Never Realized Republic, "[He]... weaves together elements of, ancient and modern history, economics, philosophy, religion and education." This was also true as a Liberal Arts Professor, Author, and radio host. Dr. O'Lalor was the creator and host of World Wide Wisdom Radio, (Retired). World Wide Wisdom Radio tied events of the present, with the modern, ancient, and archaic past. It was a live call in show where guests either participated in, or responded to, lectures about the science, philosophy, and religion of ancient times, and how they were differently perceived from the present.
Is this weaving together, not the education of America's Founders,' with its' innate morality, sorely lacking in today's education and politics? Might there be a connection? George Washington thought so; but in a positive way, vis-à-vis... "Observe good faith and justice towards all nations. Cultivate peace and harmony with all.-Religion and Morality enjoin this conduct; and can it be that good policy does not equally enjoin it?" See, President Washington's Farewell Address, September 17th, 1796, in Meyers, eds., et al., Sources of the American Republic, Vol. 1, doc. # 64, 202.
