I work for a non-profit organization called Girls on the Run, which I love. In my free time I like to cook, go for walks, watch football, go to see shows/concerts, listen to music, watch movies and spend time with my family and fiance Phillip. We are getting married in May 2010! Lastly, I enjoy reading. Reading transports me to places and eras I... more »

I personally could not finish The Shack. I know people love it but I just couldn't deal with the heartbreak and death in this story.... Maybe I have dealt with too much in my own life, but I had to lay it down.

Hi. In answer to your question "Should I read The Shack", my answer would be YES. It was originally intended for Christians, but it is definitely not main stream in its views , for example it depicts a black, elderly lady as God - you'll just love her! It's a story about loss and grief and coming to terms with it, and is therefore particularly helpful for anyone going through such a sad period in their life. But I loved the book, even though I have not had any such recent heartbreak. It can be a life-changing experience, give it a try

Definitely spiritual. I agree with an earlier comment. It brought new light into how I view "God". The book is hard to put down. I took it on vacation this summer along with other books. My intent was to read it first. However, my husband started reading the intro and did not put it down until he was finished. Enjoy!

This book was interesting and a good read, but definitely fantasy. The writer is a universalist - so anything goes~

I liked The Shack. It IS certainly spiritual, and has a lot of depth. It is also an intriguing story. I might change the way you view God.

Whether you read The Shack or not depends a lot on how you feel about Christianity. It has been very popular but you would have to understand the basics behind Christianity in order to get the full scope of the book.

Yes - read Middlesex. It's a very absorbing, frolicking read and a little unconventional.

Don't read The Road unless you want to be utterly depressed. It's a very well-written book that you will feel compelled to read all the way through in practically one sitting, but it won't leave you with a sunny feeling at the end. And that not-so-sunny feeling stays with you for quite some time afterwards. I still get a bit of a chill when I think of that book.

Hi Erin! Love your profile pic :-) So, here's my two cents....With Eat Pray Love, it's helpful to have gone through experiences where you see the true value of a spiritual journey of some sort. I, personally, adore this book, which completely took me by surprise. I found the author to be incredibly likeable (despite my initial misgivings that it was going to be too self-centered to be entertaining.) If you've ever had aspirations to one day travel and/or be a little more free, it's a beautiful little book written by author through which I, personally, immensely enjoyed living vicariously.

    Erin,
I looked through your bookshelf after answering your ? about Eat, Pray, Love, and found so many books I love. But what leaves me to comment is your book about Zippy, a book I have known only to be read by my daughter. It made me chuckle to see it on another person's shelf! Happy Reading!
