I work for a non-profit organization called Girls on the Run. In my free time I like to cook, go for walks, watch football, go to see shows/concerts, listen to music, watch movies and spend time with my family, my husband Phillip and our dog Brewster. Lastly, I enjoy reading. Nothing beats a glass of wine (or a cup of tea), a Snuggie and a good... more »

Hi, Erin! So glad you're enjoying the book. Not only are we Shelfari friends, but we are also Charlotteans!

I am also impressed with your organization, Girls on the Run. Do you think the girls would like to have an author visit and talk about writing and publishing?

I enjoyed A Reliable Wife. A bit different, to say the least, but it was one of those books that after I finished it, I could truly say I'm glad I read it. It is a big graphic, but you just have to put that part aside and enjoy the book.

A Reliable Wife is a very odd, compelling book, very heavy on sensuality, sexuality and violence. The plot is interesting and the language is beautiful; the descriptions of Wisconsin winter is breathtaking and frightening. I didn't care much for any of the 3 main characters, nor for the soft-core porn. It wasn't the fact of mental masturbation I objected to, it was that it just never stopped. And I thought the 2 men were portrayed much more fully and sympathetically than the woman. But despite the sour taste , I desperately wanted to know how the story came out. When i was halfway through, i skipped to the last 2 chapters & was so surprised, I went back to where I left off and read, skimmed actually, the rest of it. A great story, but kind of like a Quentin Tarantino movie. So- a good read, but I can't recommend it wholeheartedly..

Hello, Erin. I’m the author of The Sandal Maker, a new novel about the public ministry of Jesus from a unique point of view, a little controversial at times, but you will see him as never before. It’s a story that will take you on a fascinating journey in first century Galilee. Have you ever wondered what is was like to live in those times? What part did women play in his ministry? Was he the first feminist? Were the miracles real? Why did Judas betray the Master? How does the gospel of Jesus compare to the gospel according to Peter and Paul? This is a “must read” for those on a true spiritual quest. You can read reviews at Amazon.com. I’m including a link to copy and paste. Let me know what you think.

No, I've been thinking of authors I know I've read, and looking through to mark which ones I've read. I have to stop now, there is no way to remember all of the authors, let alone the books. I'll look at some authors, and I can't remember just which books I've read, so I'm just marking the ones I know.

Now I guess I'll just add them as I read them or happen to remember one. I don't remember any specifics, so can't advise you on the Bride Quartet. Sorry.

I personally could not finish The Shack. I know people love it but I just couldn't deal with the heartbreak and death in this story.... Maybe I have dealt with too much in my own life, but I had to lay it down.

Hi. In answer to your question "Should I read The Shack", my answer would be YES. It was originally intended for Christians, but it is definitely not main stream in its views , for example it depicts a black, elderly lady as God - you'll just love her! It's a story about loss and grief and coming to terms with it, and is therefore particularly helpful for anyone going through such a sad period in their life. But I loved the book, even though I have not had any such recent heartbreak. It can be a life-changing experience, give it a try

Definitely spiritual. I agree with an earlier comment. It brought new light into how I view "God". The book is hard to put down. I took it on vacation this summer along with other books. My intent was to read it first. However, my husband started reading the intro and did not put it down until he was finished. Enjoy!

This book was interesting and a good read, but definitely fantasy. The writer is a universalist - so anything goes~

I liked The Shack. It IS certainly spiritual, and has a lot of depth. It is also an intriguing story. I might change the way you view God.

Whether you read The Shack or not depends a lot on how you feel about Christianity. It has been very popular but you would have to understand the basics behind Christianity in order to get the full scope of the book.
