I had not heard of the Hedgehog book. It looks like a good read. It made me wonder whether you had read novels by Anita Brookner. They are often about sensitive, introverted women who struggle to fit into, or make their way into, contemporary life. I also noticed that you did not care for the Sedaris book too much. (I haven't read it.)
