Reading is dreaming with open eyes.....

I am a woman passionate about her books. One of life s greatest pleasures is to be lost in a wonderful book!

Nonna, I couldn't agree more with your thoughts about "The Highest Tide," it's truly one of the most fun to read, riotously funny, stories I've read in years. I can't wait until his next book. I think you might also really enjoy "Spanking Shakespeare" by Jake Wizner which is also outrageously funny and for a departure into a mystery/thriller story on steroids check out "The Dummy Line" by Bobby Cole, it's fantastic! Enjoy and READ ON...

Let me know what you think of Sixteen Pleasures. I read it for one of my book clubs and then liked the author well enough that I read his follow-up book, Italian Lover.

Hi Carol! I hope you enjoyed your holidays and wishing you a healthy and blessed New Year. I saw Run on your shelf and had to sample it. I was hooked immediately, had to read it. I've not read this author before. It was on Amazon's lending library list so I got it for free. Have a great day!

Thanks for telling me what Nonna meant, my grandkids call me Nina. Carol I found the most awesome used book store this weekend called 2nd and Charles. I got 8 books for $20. I did not have my wish list with me because I've read on my Kindle for 3 years. I am going to get The French Gardner when I go back. I had forgotten how much I actually enjoyed books. it was a joy! I could have spent the day there but had my granddaughter with me and after an hour she was ready to go. I can't recall if yo uhave en e-reader or not? My plan is to read on my Kindle away from home and real books at home.

Hi Carol, just stopping by to say hello and I hope you've had a nice summer. I keep up with your reading here on Shelfari. We are getting a touch of fall here now which I absolutely love but I'm sure the hot weather isn't quite over. I hope you have a nice day!

Glad to hear you've been traveling and feeling well! I've done a little bit of traveling myself, in & out of Chicago a couple of times, one for my mom's 80th b-day!! I also went to a summer camp reunion of all things, and that was an absolute blast!! Great people from such a long time ago. Now I'm planning on going back to Chicago for my best friend's daughter's wedding. I watched her grow up and am so happy for her. Also hoping for another trip to Israel in the spring to do some volunteer work at a children's hospital as well as travel some more. I'm hoping to do this every 2 years if possible. My kids are growing. The younger one graduated HS and started some college courses, and the older is working full-time and taking one course.

I've added more hours to work myself. And this past year or two, aside from the 1 week students I've been working with on the job (it's a requirement for them to graduate), I've also been teaching Masters students at work. They work with us full-time for 3 months and while they take so much extra time & energy, they usually, and are supposed to, become a fully independent OT by the end of the experience. So for those last few weeks, I'm out of the room more, allowing them to do the treating. And they have to do all the paperwork!! We don't get paid for this, but they do give us continuing ed credits which go towards our licensure requirement. We've been taking these students about 9 months out of the year, which is a lot. But it's the best way to learn, from someone who really knows how to do it versus someone who's been in the classroom for years. And it's an investment in my profession's future.

I love what you said about Pat Conroy, Carol, and it was so funny because it sounds so similar to how I view him. He is my favorite author as well, and it comes so naturally to him. I've read nearly everything he's written, but I believe I've missed one or two. He's so amazing.

It's late, and I have to get up a little early tomorrow, but I saw your note and had to respond. I hope you have a lovely holiday weekend. Take good care. Great to hear from you!
    Love,
    Nancy

Hey there, remember me? It's been such a long time!! I rarely if ever come on here anymore. Life is so busy that I honestly don't get thru all of my emails even. Anyhow, been thinking about you lately and thought I'd say hello. I hope that you & yours have been well. I spent much of my summer reading Jean Auel's newest The Painted Caves and loved it. My bookmarks have lately been in Sue Grafton's U is For Undertow (needed something easy & light) as well as Barbara Kingsolver's Prodigal Summer. Next in line is Pat Conroy's South of Broad. I've been making a little more time to read of late and am much happier :-) Take care, love, Nancy

I finished "Cold Vengeance" today. I loved it. I can't wait for the sequel. Corrie Swanson is back and I love her character. This series trilogy? left a lot to be resolved. I couldn't stop listening. This is a talented pair of writers with an awesome talent for making characters real. I also read "Ghost Story" all I can say is Jim Butcher is getting better with each Harry Dresden book. I love to share these delights with you.

I'll be getting Cold Vengeance from the library next week. I can't wait. I read Ghost Story - Harry Dresden Files was absolutely fabulous. I read Patchett's new book. It is my first read of her writing. I guess I'm just ignorant, but reviews say she writes a great plot. I think I need a road map to find it. Her characters in this book are weak, and I admit I love a book that brings both a story and characters alive in my mind. I only gave her a three, but others seem to dig a lot deeper into the mire than I do.

Hi Carol, I hope you had a nice weekend. I wanted to tell you that Bound by Sally Gunning is a sequel to Widow's War and very good also.

Gunning has written two others, Indentured and The Rebellion of Jane Clark which are also very good, but Widow's War is my favorite. The protagonists are always heroines who face adversity in every realm of their lives: social, legal, physical, mental, and they overcome their obstacles with pride and determination. Gunning's ancestors go back to the Mayflower and because the Colonies started here, the historical societies in each of our towns have done spectacular jobs in documentation.
