True lover of books. The actual physical books. Especially love Eastern European writers. Read poets from everywhere. Very rarely do I care for "popular" books, self-help, political or new religion. Art: yes. Classics: yes, at least I try. Example, Brother Karamazov my favorite, which I reread every winter and learn something new. Also love... more »

Hi noktylos, No I haven't read the book you mentioned in your post. I'll have to look for it. I love your avatar. Are you a belly dancer? I just became fascinated with this form of dance; I found an online site where I can watch various troupes perform. I marvel at the dexterity of these women who are not tiny like ballet dancers, yet they move with equal grace!

Wahnsinn!! Hallo! Wie geht's?? I will recommend to you the novel written by Graham Greene entitled "The Quiet American". The backdrop is Saigon 1955, the characters are English, American, Chinese, and Vietnamese, and although Greene misspells a lot of Vietnmanese proper nouns (the city is Tay Ninh, NOT Tan Ninh)these small points do not matter. Also, I recommend the books on my shelf about the poetry of Ho Xuan Huong. These provide a good "jumping off" point, but you would do good actually to begin with any of the Asia-collection on my shelf! I see you now reside in NM. It was in Santa Fe I first read Graham Greene's work. New Mexico makes a wonderful backdrop for reading about the Orient. Please come back and ask me anything anytime. Maya-Tanzen ist geil! Großartig ! Es freute mich Jhnen hier zu treffen!

Hey there. As you know, the Kosovo Assembly proclaimed unilaterally independence some days ago. Our government says it is against the UN Charter and the international law since there was no decision in the UN Security Council and Serbia is a member of the UN with its borders. Our standpoint is that negotiations must continue until a comprise is reached. In the meantime, Serbian Parliament dismissed the proclamation and our officials say that we will never recognize independent Kosovo.
On the other hand some countries have chosen to go this road and recognized it: USA, UK, France, Germany, Turkey, Afghanistan and so on. Other countries will not: Russia, Spain, Cyprus, Romania, Greece, Slovakia... We had huge demonstrations here with more than 500,000 people in the streets of Belgrade protesting against the independence of Kosovo. Sadly, some hooligan groups (mainly football supporters) have gone violent and smashed the windows of the US Embassy and some stores. Some of them took this opportunity to go around the centre, smash shop windows and steal which is very, very sad. Personally I think that our Government should have done more to prevent these shameful behaviour that inflected a great damage to our reputation.
One thing is certain - we will not initiate any military action and will continue with intensified diplomatic actions in the future to try to rectify the situation. The main problem is that this is a very dangerous situation for other countries, not just in our region - does it mean that every separatist region in the world can proclaim independence if they have powerful sponsors? What if Basque region chooses to proclaim their independence from Spain, will the US and the UK ignore the UN and accept it? I don't think so and this is a clear game of double standards.
I am very angry with some of my countrymen who are clear vandals and attacked certain foreign embassies. This is simply unacceptable and it should be condemned by everyone.
I hope this helped you to understand some of the issues here. If you have any other question I would be more than happy to try and answer. More can be found at www.b92.net (in Serbian).

    All the best,

    Zeljko
