Hi Niki,Don't know if you remember me, but I wrote to you quite a while back about how I'd donate books to the YA section of my public library, only to find that they'd disappear before being entered into the system. Well I finally found out what's going on and I could use any advice you have to offer. It seems that the YA librarian has some issues with keeping up with her work. She has boxes upon boxes of books to be entered into the system and put on the shelves, but she doesn't do anything with them. When her supervisors tell her to clean up her office, she takes the boxes of books home and stores them in her garage!! The supervisors know she's doing this and so far, have done nothing about the problem! I'm currently volunteering at the library and this was told to me in confidence by one of the other librarians. I'm unsure what to do, but I don't feel as if I can stand by and not do something. What would you do if you were in my situation? Thank you in advance for any help you can give!Kat :)
Thanks, Niki. I did end up finding the librarian the other day, and she was wonderful. She accepted my books and encouraged me to bring more. So I guess it's all in who you talk to at the library. Also, maybe my books weren't valued as much...but still some of them were famous authors and fairly recent NYT bestsellers all of which the library didn't have, so I don't know what happened. But thanks for the input.
Hi Niki, got a library question for you. We have a new library (our first one) in town. Every time I donate books, the librarians give them all to the bookstore to be sold rather than put them on the shelves...even when they are fairly new books and our library doesn't have them yet. Do you know what the criteria are for accepting books into the library?I don't like keeping books after I've read them, but I want to be able to read them again in the future. I figure a library is the perfect place to donate them.
It's a high school class, each students reads a different book every two weeks, they are grouped by common offenses then students discuss, find commonalities between them, and produce projects. This is a trial run, I think the next posting they do here will be in forums and they will comment with each other. If that goes well, then maybe, if students are comfortable with it, I'll invite outside discussion as well. Welcome to the party.
Just wanted to let you know that the Banned Book group that you joined is a class of students, I am their teacher. We are posting information about the banned books we read for class. I ask only that you are respectful to the students in the class--enjoy!Mr. Dimon
No, I've been a bit busy. I'm hoping to have some down time in the colder months though. I'll add that to the list.
Hi Niki--Just thought I'd check this out. May have time one day to do a profile. We'll seeeeeee.Love,Gramma
Hello friend. Thanks for this, you have a knack for making advances into my life at just the right time, and in just the right manner. I appreciate that about you.
