Furious over her father’s will, Olivia Breedlove derives a plan with hopes to make the one man she has longed for to take a chance on her love. Morgan Gatewood is a family friend and has fought his desires for Olivia for many years. His reputation as a womanizer and her father kept them apart many years ago, now her latest scheme is sure to test his restraints with the overwhelming desire that sizzles between them. Olivia talks him into bringing her to a house of ill repute so that she can observe the sexual delights that she will need to find the type of husband that will make her happy. Ultimately, she wants to entice Morgan into admitting his feelings for her and get past the propriety that has kept him away from her. Can they overcome the proper society rules and her father’s will to find a future together? Can Oliver accept the passion and the emotions that Morgan arouses within her?

Keta Diablo has pen a great historical romance with sizzling erotic appeal. Olivia and Morgan are characters that test the boundaries of their emotions as their romance takes you on a path with decadence. Not only do we get a sensual romance but also woven within the sexual tension is a subplot where murder and danger pulls you into a tangled web of intrigue. Decadent Deceptions is a great novel and I enjoyed the steam that came with this red-hot read.

Rachel Carrington’s latest release, The Hunted, is a wonderfully written and entertaining paranormal story. Ariana has been in love with vampire Joquinn for a while, but things are complicated. She is the protégé of a goddess that has commanded her to kill vampires, just like Joquinn. Things become even more complicated when she realizes that the goddess has duped her and Joquinn is the only one who can save her, but what Ariana wants most is his forgiveness.

Ms. Carrington had woven an enchanting and enthralling story that draws you in until you can’t put it down. Her characters are intelligent and intriguingly complex and the passion that flares between them is smoking hot. The plot sucks you in and makes you feel like you are part of the story. I am very partial to paranormal books and this book is a great addition to my collection. This is a book that I wish didn’t end and am very happy to recommend. This is for anyone who loves red-hot romance and strong, fascinating characters.

Act II, Scene I by Polly McCrillis: Leah Redmond was once an up and coming new star. 4 years ago tragedy struck and she hasn’t stepped foot on a stage since then. When Leah’s sister tosses a script for “A Christmas Carol” through her door, Leah is furious and plans to return the script the next day.

Dalton Bream is a carpenter, volunteering and building sets for the local community playhouse’s production of “A Christmas Carol”. He meets Leah when she hits her head on a ladder sticking out of his truck. Dalton comes to her rescue and helps her inside.

Leah’s plans to return the script and say “No Thanks” are changed and she once again is acting. She also finds herself attracted to Dalton. But will she take a chance on a relationship with Dalton?

A Commander Under The Tree by Billie Warren Chai: Commander Eli Scott, is a doctor in the U.S. Navy, who is looking for a place to live. He finds an ad for a duplex for rent. It’s location is great, the price is right and it’s the right size.

Fiona Ross is a widow, mother of 4-year-old Joey, and owner of the duplex Eli is renting. Fiona is still recovering from the loss of her husband but finds Eli intriguing. He’s also very good with her son. When the two finally become involved issues arise with her “in-laws”. What will the couple do and how will they handle grandparents who are threatening to take away Fiona’s son.

A Home For Christmas by Diane Davis White: Judson “Jud” Brown is a rancher with a problem. That problem is a shipment of hay his grandfather with Alzheimer’s ordered and Jud can’t pay for.

Olivia Strong is the owner of the feed and grain store who took the order for the hay. She’s got problems of her own and needs to be paid for the shipment. She has 3 young brothers she’s been caring for since the death of their parents.

When Jud invites Olivia and the boys to the ranch for dinner to discuss what to do about the hay, he doesn’t expect what comes next, an ice storm that strands them all on the ranch, with Christmas just a few days away. It’s cold outside but the sparks begin to fly inside.

A Soldier’s Heart by Rebecca Andrews: Mason Taggart is the only son of the current president. He’s also the current Governor of Tennessee. He’s joining his parents for Christmas at the White House. What he is about to find out is that he’s in danger and is going into hiding with a special bodyguard. A former soldier.

Priscilla Ashby is a former helicopter pilot for the Army. She suffers from PTSS (post-traumatic stress syndrome) from her time in Iraq. She’s now the bodyguard for Mason Taggart. She’s charged with getting him to a secure and safe location. As they are leaving the White House they are attacked and forced to abandon the original plan.

What they both figure out is that there is a traitor inside, somewhere. Someone who is letting secrets slip out that shouldn’t. Who it is and how long the two will have to be in hiding is anyone’s guess. As the weather cools down, these two heat up.

I really enjoyed this heart-warming anthology. The four stories are different enough to keep you interested but all have their happy endings. The characters are heart wrenchingly human and hurting and simply looking for a little bit of peace on earth. Luckily they all eventually find it, although not without some strife. But we always appreciate the gifts we receive when we have to work a little harder to keep them.

I recommend these warm holiday tales be read by the light of a well-lit tree, with a lovely fire in the fireplace and a nice cup of hot cocoa. All will warm your through and through.

Elizabeth Robards gives us a glimpse into a chapter of Edouard Manet through his relationship with fellow artist Berthe Morisot. The French Impressionist movement is brought to life along with the Franco-Prussian War. The author gives life to the names that have long been enshrined in paint.

Unfortunately, the love story between Manet and Morisot is not as enthralling as one of their pictures. I was ready for the couple to part ways long before they actually do so in the story. Fans of the French Impressionists will enjoy the fine job Elizabeth Robards does in bringing this interesting segment of cultural history to the written page.

Alison Weir has become a must-read chronicler of some of history’s most compelling characters. In “The Lady Elizabeth”, she brings to life the early years of Queen Elizabeth I. The rise of Elizabeth as Henry VIII’s little princess, her years as his “bastard daughter”, and the dangerous fight for survival during Queen Mary’s rule, before she, herself, becomes Queen. The lesser-known characters in Elizabeth’s life are also brought to life in this book. The Tudor dynasty is richly explored in this entertaining book.

Intrigue, secret loves, schemes, misalliances, innocent lives destroyed, and religious maneuverings all lend themselves to this engrossing story. Once you finish this book, you’ll find yourself rushing to pick up Alison Weir’s next book to see what Elizabeth will do next. For anyone who is a history buff or a fan of romance and intrigue, this is one book you can’t miss.

  • Twilight's Son - Fallen Angel book 1

Twilight’s Son is an interesting and down to earth look into the lives of reborn angels and their possible lives on earth. This novel has elements of romance and you will enjoy the struggle the hero and heroine go through.

Shade is a reborn angel. He was the Angel of Earth. He is now on earth in a human body. Not a child’s body, but in an adult male body. He still remembers being an angel. He chose to become human to follow the woman that he loves. His love, Brie, does not remember her past life.

Detective Brie Carter is a touch chick. She has a hard job and doesn’t want it any other way. She has several murders on her hands and they are strange. Along with that she has met an interesting and hot guy named Shade. There is something that pulls her to him and she has a feeling she has met him before. After first meeting Shade she soon finds him popping up all over, from a strip club to the hospital where her father goes.

On another front, we have Uriel. Uriel was the Angel of Judgment, but is now also in a human body. He is in a female body and is after Shade. His purpose of becoming human is to disrupt Brie and Shade getting together. He finds their union to be an abomination.

Twilight’s Son is a debut novel by Erin Sinclair. Mrs. Sinclair has an adept hand at character building and strings the reader along through twists and turns. I didn’t know who the killer was until very close to the books end. The suspense part of the book was just that. One part that made the book interesting, but didn’t take over the whole storyline. Mrs. Sinclair made Brie into a woman who many woman would want to be. Brie is a woman who is willing to take on the world, but also wants to include romance in the mix. Shade was a wonderful hero with a compassionate heart. He went after the woman he loved even when it took him to a completely different existence. Who couldn’t love a guy who went so far for love? I hear that this is going to just be the first book in a series and I’m looking forward to continuing along.

Allie was living the good life, shopping, partying, and doing whatever the rich do. That was until her mother ran off with her tennis instructor and took the family fortune with her. Now Allie spends her time running Sally's Diner during the day and learning to fight at night. One night Allie and her friends got drunk and accidentally opened a door to Hell in the basement of the diner. When demons started to come through the door, a strange man dressed in leather and wearing a cowboy hat, was there to fight them off. The only thing Allie knows about him is his name, Ryan, and that he is a hunter who has been assigned to guard the door. Rayn is not the very forthcoming with information about himself or his job. All that Allie knows is that there is just something about him that she likes even though Rayn has let her know that there can never be anything between them. But when the door disappears it is up to Allie and Rayn to find it. When they bring the other hunters together they come up with a plan they could end up bringing about the end of the world. Allie, Rayn and two other hunters must go to Hell to find out what happened to the door. As they travel through the different levels of Hell, Rayn and Allie find themselves getting closer and closer to each other. If they manage to survive is their love strong enough to stand the test?

Ms Katherine has written and entertaining tale of two different people who manage to overcome the odds and fall in love. The way the characters struggled to find their way of the different Hells will hold the readers attention. This is a definite keeper.

  • City of Jade: A Novel of Mithgar

    Kyraninse of Night Owl Romance

City of Jade, a novel from the Mithgar Series, follows the adventures of Aravan and his lover Aylis (and a bunch of others) as they travel around meeting friends and thwarting enemies. Once they board the Eroean, his ship, they try to find the City of Jade. There are a couple of battles; lots of strive, a bit of love and much confusion.

Normally I start reviews with a brief synopsis of the story, but I had a very hard time following this novel. I apologize to the author because it clearly does not stand-alone outside the series and since I haven't read the previous books I am at a distinct disadvantage.

Much of the book refers to events that occurred in other stories making it feel disjointed. It also made the story drag although I felt the prose in places was quite good.

However I can say this as a novice fantasy reader, I have never seen a more elaborate setting. So many characters (creatures) were introduced with all types of skills that I was reeling trying to keep track. I assume if a reader had been entrenched in previous novels they'd be familiar and have an easier time. That along with many subplots...phew.

I know Dennis McKiernan is a well respected author so if you are interested in fantasy of a Tolkien nature, he's your guy. But you might want to start at the beginning of the series.

With the death of Juggs, the Innkeeper, Emily Beauregard Colyton found the perfect job opening to fill while she searched for her ancestral family’s treasure. First though, she had to get the job. Appearing at Jonas’ doorstep Emily was not his first choice for the job, but acting on his father’s behalf, Jonas was willing to give her a try.

Before long the Red Bells Inn was a success with plenty of drinkers, diners and overnighters.

With Emily came her younger brother Henry, Isobel her younger sister and twin half-sisters who were all welcomed into the community.

Jonas took an immediate interest in Emily, and her, him. Isobel had an interest in the minister, Joshua Filing who tutored Henry so Henry could gain acceptance into Pembroke their father’s former school at Oxford.

Everything fell into place in Colyton. Isobel was tutoring the twins, Henry was on the right course towards Pembroke, and the Inn was a success, she was even being wooed, but until they found the Colyton family treasure Emily wasn’t sure of their future. None of them knew what the treasure amounted to but it had been stashed away hundreds of years for a Colyton down on their luck.

Emily at 25 became guardian of her sisters and brother after their father’s and stepmother’s deaths. They needed the treasure now and her family kept it a secret until they required the towns peoples help to solve the riddle. With their inclusion the treasure was no longer a secret placing everyone at risk.

Stephanie Laurens Cynster novels follow the Cynster family throughout their many escapades. Phyllida, Jonas’ sister married Lucifer Cynster so Jonas became part of the Cynster legacy. Jonas and Emily have a wonderfully erotic sexual relationship that Stephanie Laurens excels in expressing. Her mode of moving the story along with intelligent natural dialogue shows why she’s one of the most popular historical romance novelists. It could also be the alluring characters in her novels that attract her readers.

Temptation and Surrender is another wonderful addition to the Cynster family novels.

Cedric Davenport thought Kennedy Tyson could be a woman who would be able to see past his superstar status and see the man beneath. Their instant connection was like being zapped by lightning. He plans on taking his time to claim her, but she derails his plans. She tells him they can’t be together, because he’s out of her league. Refusing to allow her to put barricades he sets off to prove her wrong.

Kennedy Tyson can’t believe a man like Cedric Davenport would really be interested in having a long-term relationship with someone like her. He was rich and famous and she was a struggling writer working two jobs just to get by. After one night of the best sex she’d had in years she tells him it can’t be anything more than that. He gives her fair warning that he isn’t giving up, and that he doesn’t fight fair when he wants something this badly.

This is a fast paced story with likeable characters. Baron made you really want these characters to get what they want, and not just in bed. If you like your romance steamy hot this ones for you.

Special Notes: BSDM, some anal play mentioned.
