Nighthawk

I've kept a list of all the books I've read since I was fourteen. This served me well when I discovered Shelfari, for which I must thank my lovely wife. For the most part the books I've read are listed in the order I read them, though there are some notable exceptions. I had a hard time listing the books I love enough to read more than... more »

I did a search of their web sites for winners but not for every entry for consideration. I kind of couldn't figure out how to be that extensive. I just keep hoping some other sci fi fan will remember it. Thanks anyway!!

I see you have read a lot of sci fi. I lost a short story that I read about 20 years ago. I thought it was a Hugo or Nebula award winner or at least was in the running but a search there has not found it. It is a story of letters back and forth between a book club and a customer. he orders Treasure Island but gets Kidnapped instead and by the end of the story is in prison for the actual kidnapping and death of author Robert Louis Stevenson. Does this ring a bell? It was in a hardback library book I borrowed years ago from a little library in New York state....

Well I took the plunge and bought it. I had checked the others out from the library. I'll let you know what I think once I've read it.

Does the most recent Dexter novel have any spoilers for the current season that is on Showtime?

Just wanted to let you know I think it's awesome you've read so many books. I enjoy checking the ones you add to "already read."

That looks like a very interesting book about the plague. I watched a special on it on the History Channel one time. It was pretty neat.

The books in my 'I'm reading' section are the ones I have lined up for the month. I can usually juggle 2 or 3 at a time.

Ok, well this isn't where I went to add a book previously, but you can do it here:
    - click on help at the top right (I think it'll be on any page)
    - choose topic: Add, manage or read my books
    - more details: Add/remove books from my shelf
    - click "I want to add a book that's missing on shelfari"

There is a form with a bunch of info about the book to fill out. If I'm remembering correctly, it's just after you fill out the form that it gives you the chance to upload a picture of the cover, so have that ready. If you pass by that, you'll get one of those boring blue empty covers. :-) Good luck!

Thank you. :-) I have two cats, you can read about them in my profile and I will occasionally change my avatar, usually to a different picture of the cats, but sometimes to one of one of my cruises (to Alaska and Scotland/Ireland).

I wish I still had that list from grade 7, but I'm not sure if I ever got it back from my teacher. It's been quite a while since I've added a book, and I think the "look" of shelfari has changed since then, so I'll look around a bit to see if I can remember where to go to do that.

Thanks for the friend request! I just read your profile. Wow! That's amazing that you kept track of all the books you've read since you were 14!!! I kept track in grade 7 - our teacher wanted to encourage reading, but really he just asked us to keep track. I think 3 of us had over 100 books. I was second out of 25ish of us! Until I joined shelfari a couple of years ago, I didn't keep track after that. After high school, I didn't read as much anyway - too busy with university.

Anyway, I also wanted to ask if you knew you can add a book that's not already here on shelfari? I usually try searching a few ways to be real sure first, including a search by isbn. Even better if you can find a picture of the cover of the book online, save it, and you can make sure the cover is added at the same time you add the book. You probably already know it can't be added later. :-( Hopefully one day we'll be able to do that.

I will have to get one of his books. I actually enjoyed the Good House. Well, I didn't really care for the ending that much but, I thought it was a pretty good book. Is there any book in particular that you would recommend by Steven Barnes?
