“******** MAJOR SPOILERS!!! ************
Hmmm... well, I have been waiting for this book to come out for some time and now that I have read it, I have mixed feelings about it. This book definitely had a different tone to it than the others. One thing I always loved about the books was that all the crazy supernatural stuff that was revealed to Sookie throughout the books was processed with a great deal of humor and filtered through a relatable southern christian perspective. However, this book was much darker and wasn't balanced by humor. I feel like Sookie is becoming jaded by all the things happening around her and to her. Which, admittedly is understandable- no human could probably be that resilient after witnessing and being responsible for so much death. However, I am curious about the next book and how her personality will be affected by the traumatic events in this book. Torture?? I mean, that is dark stuff. Toward the end of the book, I wondered for the first time if this might be the last Sookie book because it really seemed like Sookie might actually die. And if Bill had been killed off, I think I would have thrown the book against the wall. I mean, I am 100% in the Eric fan club, and I don't want her to get back together with Bill, but she can't just kill him off! Claudine was difficult for me to take, but if Bill was dead too, it would be too much.
I agree with the other reviewers that it seemed like there was too much crammed into this book and because of that, we didn't get enough detail about everything and it seemed rushed and not well explained. What was the point in Quinn coming? Why bring up her nephew if she doesn't get to do anything? What the heck is going on with the FBI?! And after Niall popped into her life, she is never going to see him again now? What?!
Ahhh! When is the next book coming out for crying out loud?”
