I'm a bookaholic :) Love reading paranormal romance, chic lit, historical fiction and general fiction. There are too many books on my TBR pile (its now TBR shelves) but I keep buying to get my fix lol Holidays are my favourite time cause I can kick back and read a new book every couple days. The joys of being a teacher and having no kids!

  • Beautiful Redemption

A sad, but fantastic, ending to the series. The movie really doesn't do the writers any justice.

  • Scarlet
    • Rated 5 stars

Scarlet, the follow up to the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder, is an exciting read with adventure and romance set in a futuristic world. This time, the story follows three characters, Scarlet, Cinder and to a lesser degree, Prince Kai. I loved having Cinder and Scarlett's story intertwined as it added extra layers and depth to this new world. With three view points too, the novel was fast paced with many plot developments. So many were unexpected it left me sitting there in surprise. I thought it could be difficult following the various storylines but it was easy to keep track of the events as they all linked together. Out of the main characters, I loved Scarlet's story and her relationship with Wolf. It was such a great twist on Little Red Riding Hood that I really felt that I got to know this young woman in depth. As for Wolf-where do I get me one of him lol I

  • Covet
    • Rated 5 stars

Covet is the fantastic sequel to the YA novel Crave. Covet picks up at the end of Crave, with half witch half vampire Savannah having to finish her relationship with Clann member, Tristan. But instead of it being a clean break, the death of a family member brings about the end in a humiliating manner. From here, the book takes the usual twists and turns of teenage love with misunderstanding and pain. But throughout all this, Savannah is learning about her growing vampire/witch abilities, forging a relationship with her father and learning of her best friend's secret. The best part was at the end, involving Tristan and his family. It has left me begging for mid year to come faster!

  • And Then It Happened
    • Rated 5 stars

And Then It Happened is a beautiful, emotional read for fans of the book or movie, The Vow. It begins as a typical story as it follows childhood sweethearts Mel and Adam as they navigate everyday life with their daughter Maya. Mel though is convinced that her luck is bound to run out after making a life changing decision as a teenager. When it does, it is something she could not have foreseen or prepared for in her worst nightmares. What follows is a heartbreaking testimony to marriage and love as Mel fights against the odds for what she believes in. Her husband.

  • The Goddess Test
    • Rated 3 stars

The Goddess Test is the first in a YA trilogy. It's an easy, quick read based on the Greek myth of Persephone and Hades. I enjoyed it most of the time but at other times it frustrated me. What I did like was Aimee Carter's personal twist on the tale but I wish that another Greek myth could be retold as this has already been done with Everneath. The main character, Kate, is a likeable girl however she was just too nice, especially to Ava. Ava is the typical high school queen bee who treats Kate badly yet Kate is still friendly with her. I don't understand their relationship as Kate is human, not a saint. The other bug bear for me was not knowing the 7 tests until the end. The story is supposed to be about passing these aspects but they are barely mentioned. When they are mentioned it ties the story nicely together as do the other secrets that are revealed. But it was a little to late for me.

  • Through the Ever Night
    • Rated 4 stars

I really enjoyed this sequel to Under The Never Sky. A lot happens in the book as Aria tries to fit into a new community while Perry is trying to become a respected leader. Both make life changing decisions that set them on different paths, ultimately trying to reach the same goal, to find the Still Blue. As in many YA genres, there were hints of romance through out the story. Temptation was put in front of Perry and I found it made him more relatable as a result. Most surprising though was the amount of deaths. People died that I wasn't expecting to but I liked this because it made Through The Ever Night more realistic and down to earth. The grief different characters went through as a result also struck a chord.

The one thing that has bugged me is that I felt this story was missing it's 'heart', especially compared to the first book. I'm not sure if this is 'middle book syndrome' but something was definitely not there for me. Perhaps it was because it was such a quick read? Or too easy?

This second book can't be read as a stand alone but is a must for fans of Under The Never Sky.

  • Postcards from the Heart

    Postcards from the Heart

    by Ella Griffin
    • Rated 5 stars

Postcards From The Heart is Ella Griffin's first chic lit novel. I didn't want to put it down, I was so caught up in the lives of the characters. The main four were Ella, her partner Greg and their friends, Jenny and Connor. Each had their own journey to navigate, as a couple and as an individual. Their stories were realistic, heartbreaking but always positive. I didn't have a favourite character but there were times I hated what was said or done. Greg and Jenny were quite selfish at times and I was glad when their respective partners stood up for themselves. As an added bonus, this book was unpredictable and I couldn't see the fate of each character until the very end. No matter what though, I felt warm and fuzzy from page one!

  • Losing Lila
    • Rated 5 stars

Loosing Lila is the outstanding sequel to the YA book, Hunting Lila. This book picks up with Alex and Lila on the run from The Unit. Her brother Alex and mother have been kidnapped by The Unit and Lila's father is still blissfully unaware of the past events. What follows is action, suspense as well as twists and turns with hot romance! The title says it all with Lila standing to loose her life as well as herself to the dark side. I really liked Lila because she's a flawed human. There were many times when she had the opportunity to go down the wrong path but had the strength and help from friends not to. It would have created an interesting storyline if she did. Ultimately Alderson has created a follow up book that is not just a fill in but a book worthy of standing on it's own.
