    Well, I've read a couple of books, but I wouldn't say I'm an expert on Classics...

    The myth of Gyges is a fairly short reference in Plato's Republic. You can see it here (pretty long, you might need to do a find for Gyges on the page)

    It seems to be a bit of an inspiration for Lord of the Rings... a ring of invisibility that morally corrupts anyone who wears it. I think Plato just meant it as an example of how power corrupts though.
