I loved this book as a kid but it just wasn't the same when I read it again recently.

An amazing book and so wonderfully written. I was sucked in from the first page and was happy to get lost in the lives of the various Trueba family members.

I consider it the mark of good writing when, even though I don't like the character/s, I can still empathize with them to an extent and I still care about them enough to want to know what happens next. That's how I felt most of the time about Esteban and his progeny. I think the only characters I truly liked were Clara and Alba but I cared about all of them.

This was my first Allende book and I look forward to reading many more.

Such a beautifully written book. I liked how the book used two tragic events - 9/11 and the Dresden bombing to show the universal themes of loss and grief. Oskar is definitely a character who climbed into my heart.

My favorite book of the year so far. The narrative style was artful and I fell in love with ALL of the characters. This isn't just a children's book, I think anyone who reads this, no matter what age, can get immersed in the story and the characters. Its heartbreaking yet hopeful.

A light, entertaining and enjoyable read. The narrative and writing style needs some work, in my opinion, and there were pacing problems in the beginning but the wonderful characters not only saves the book, but brings it to life.

This series is addictive and I can't quite put my finger on why but I give this five stars for Edward, Bella and Edward's relationship, and the awesome Cullen family.

This book started out strongly and as the suspense began to fade and I got settled into life amongst the terrorists and hostages, I found the characters compelling and the prose lyrical. But I didn't like the epilogue at all. The abrupt and tragic ending that came before it, while heartwrenching, I felt was true to the story that had been set up. The epilogue felt like the author just really wanted to have a happy ending. I felt no closure from it at all.
