Hi. Well, I am a professor. I am a voracious reader, and read widely across a number of areas-- politics, science, and art. My taste in fiction is restricted principally to authors who are skilled in storytelling, character development, and embed their work in deep philosophy and/or serious political or social issues. Then again, I am... more »

    Hi Neil
sorry for the delay, I can't find the notes written on the site if I'm not using the link from Hotmail!
All Americans dream of going to France when all French people dream of going to the USA! I don't know if that's because our countries face one another but we sure are looking at a mirror, there.
One of my best friends is living in Grenoble right now. She's studying at the Law Faculty in order to become a federal judge, so if you want to meet her and her family, I'll ask her to get in touch with you. What about your colleague ? Is he French or does he work in Grenoble ?
I've heard of Kate Moss, reading articles about her in the Guardian but that's all. I'm trying to catch up with Chuck Palahniuk as I haven't read anything from him yet. I've been to Albi though to try to capture the spirit of the Albigeois and why they rebelled against the King. I was confused when I first had a glance at the cathedral as it is a massive monument and different from the chiselled archictecture of Gothic churches, which I prefer. I traveled ( well, travelled, if you don't mind!) to the outskirts of Albi and discovered beautiful sloppery landscapes, covered with golden flowers ( it was in April), that's the most vivid image I remember of that holiday.
    Bye,
    Caroline.

Hi Neil, I was sure it would disturb my fellow Americans! I'm reading Falling Man at the moment. I usually reelly enjoy reading Don DeLillo but not this time; the storytelling is too plain for me. I think I'll have to read Mao II again.
What about you ? Still reading for your job ? When does the school year end ? In France, we'll be on holiday in July. That means more time to read!

    Neil,

This is very cool--thank you for including me. You're reading great books! No wonder our conversations are so interesting.

I don't have time to read so much but am slowly getting through my list. I will definitely add some of yours too. Check out "Faster than the Speed of Light." It's one of my current favs.

Just thought I'd tell you that someone has logged into your account and added a lot of profound books to your list of romance boddice-rippers you normally read! Also they have altered your picture and removed your glasses and facial lesions, as well as those craggy wrinkles that make you look learned!

    Hi Neil,

Just logged in. thanks for thinking of me. I never read anymore, just listen to books....very enjoyable. I've read (listened to) about 6 novels by Dean Koontz, if you love storytellers and someone who develops characters, you will love him! Guaranteed. Start with "Life Expectancy". rick
