I noted from your post on the History Nonfiction group that you favor British history--and work at the Carnegie. Could you recommend any sources on banking and investment in Britain in the early 19th century (1810-20)
Specifically, how investments were in canals and other new technologies like the emerging railroads were handled; how those with money banked and managed it, how the Royal Exchange worked. I have a number of general histories of the Regency period but nothing that has much detail specific to the economic/financial dealings of the times. Thanks for any hints you can give!

I lived in Washington State, near the Tacoma area. Your job sounds amazing! I aspire to be an editor, but I thought it would be fun to be a book lady like Meg Ryan in "You've Got Mail."

Hey, napanda! I just read your note. My answer is: since I am Mormon, I can easily answer yes, I did like the Book of Mormon. Were you wondering what it's about? Feel free to ask. I think it's SO cool that you've been to Manchester! I only spent about two days there, arriving at the airport, and then staying there on the way back home. Our English companion drove us to Chatsworth, then London, through Bath, and back to Manchester. What do you do at the Carnegie Library? It sounds absolutely amazing! Ciao!

    Hi Napanda,
Did you enjoy living in Manchester? I spent some time there with my spouse over the past 4 years. His work takes him there regularly. At first I didn't like it but now I can't wait to go back. I found some great restaurants and love the week-end get-aways to the East Coast of Scotland with those tiny villages with names that should belong in a Harry Potter book. The Lake Region is quite nice too. Are you looking forward to the last Harry Potter book next month ? Claire
