Matamata is a gorgeous wee town too. My bestie introduced me to the delight/local institution that is Workmans Cafe; love that place. I'm so jealous that you are rural - our house in Tirau was right on the village edge and we had paddocks behind us. I befriended the neighbours sheep and could stand on our (huge and sunshine drenched) deck and call them to me and then eventually pat and hand feed them bread and vege scraps over the fence. My favourite sheep I named Patrice - she was the gorgeous old matriarch of the flock :-) We're actually looking to move out of Hamilton to a rural location again; I grew up on a farm and really miss the country :(
ZOMG, you are in Tirau? I LOVE Tirau! We lived there from Nov 2008 to August 2009 when we moved back to (stinky) Hamilton. I was so happy there and absolutely adored the cafes, especially Cabbage Tree for food and Beanz and Machines for coffee - in fact some of the best coffee I have ever drunk! My best friend lives there too so I am a regular visitor.
