I can not tell you what really drew me to want to check this book out. This is not my typical reading but I am always looking for new authors to me. Right away I knew that I was holding a winner when I started reading this book. All of the lovely characters. I liked the way that all of their stories intertwined so smoothly into one another’s. Their stories were very personal and thus it helped to draw me into the book.

I can not really name a favorite as I liked all of the people in this book. Because there was such an easy flow between the different time periods it made reading this book a breeze. I think what also made me like this book was that it was mixed with true life. We who have never been to another country or were raised in America can forget the harsh reality that others have to endure when we are not faced with these situations. This is why I thought that Sahar did a good job of incorporating the truth into this book. I could see this book being made into a movie. Children of the Jacaranda Tree is a heart-wrenching, memorizing book! It is a worthy investment that you should pick up and read.

Mike is a star baseball player at his high school. He has a best friend and he is a good student. However the one thing he lacks a little is in the looks department. Not to say that Mike is fat but he is a little overweight. Things go downhill for Mike when his dad leaves for another woman and his mom closes herself off from Mike.

Mike has a voice inside his head screaming at him to be heard. Mike ignores the voice until he can no longer avoid it. This is when things go downhill quickly for Mike.

I had no clue what the subject matter of this book was about. So I was surprised when I learned that it was about eating disorders. A subject matter that I don’t think there is enough light shed on it. It is a sad disorder but not one that can not be beat and have a happy ending. Luckily I have never struggled with this problem.

In this book the author takes Mike as the person struggling. Yes, males can also have this problem. As the author learned and points out that about 10 million people in the US have this problem and 10 percent of them are male.

In this book the “disease” is the voice and narrator. I thought this was a good twist to helping to tell this story. I really hated the “voice”. I found the “voice” to be abrasive and it did not care what harm and bad choices it gave to Mike. Very scary that what can start out as just a diet or minor issue can blow up very fast into a major situation.

Paul and his three children are heading home in their buggy. The children are signing and everyone is happy. Paul is just going around the corner when he sees a flash of headlights. The last thing he hears is the splintering of the buggy and silence. When Kate arrives on the scene she recognizes Paul. For Kate the case just got more personal. Paul is the husband of Mattie Kate’s friend. Kate will do everything she can to solve the case.

Another winner for Mrs. Castillo. I love Kate and John together. They are such a great couple. So glad that they are finally starting to take their relationship to the next level.

I have always had a fascination about the Amish. The way of life for these people is amazing. So when you mix Amish with a murder mystery then you have a winner, especially when the books are written by Linda Castillo.

After reading these books, I have come to enjoy the working dynamics of Kate and the rest of the police. They all build off each other nicely. It was nice to get to learn a little more about Kate as she worked this case. Getting to know people from Kate’s past before she left. I have to say that I did not see the ending coming. Although I should have but I didn’t. It made for an exciting ending. I can not say that I was holding my breath the whole time but I might have forgotten to take a breath or two. I can not wait to read the next book.

In the 7th installment of the Josie Prescott series, she's embroiled into another mystery. When Alice Michaels is shot in front of her antique story, her death puts Josie front and center of another shocking twist. While charges were impending on Alice's company from the SEC, it's up to Josie to figure out why someone wanted her dead, even digging into her family life and private affairs, stemming from a valuable antique collection. When one of her co-workers is kidnapped, things change for an exchange of rare dolls that's one of the kind. We witness what Josie goes through, when danger approaches and closes in on her. And it's gets freaky for Josie and her co-workers, when she's closer to the danger, when it's right in front of the noise. While the press hounds her for the truth, she helps the police to get down to the bottom of this mess, when another prime suspect is killed and the killer is revealed. This one gave me goosebumps with plenty of drama.

Marisol has big dreams. She wants to be a famous singer. She has the voice. While performing at a party, Marisol is discovered. Her dreams are about to become a reality. Marisol’s first taste of stardom is recording a duet with her favorite singer, Diego. As Marisol gets higher on the stardom ladder, she leaves her friends behind. Marisol will have to make a decision whether to keep following her dreams or stay with her friends.

I found this book to be a really quick read. I was not bored reading this book. I wanted to point this out because I found most of the characters to be selfish, catty, and to have not much depth.

I would recommend this book for the more mature reading audience. So not the younger teens. In this book the characters deal with graduating high school, sex, lies, and love. The author does however give a nice quick look into what a raising star has to endure to make their dreams come true.

Marisol is nice but she was always very naïve. I would have thought she would have had more street smarts. Like did she not really realize what type of attention she would attract wearing flashy, mini skirts and cleavage baring tops. Overall this was a good book. A nice showing for new author, Lynn Maddalena Menna.

Verity is excited but at the same time a little scared to be returning home. She has a good reason to be scared. Verity will be meeting her soon to be husband for the first time. It is not like they will be complete strangers as Verity and Nate have been communicating by letter. However when Verity arrives and meets Nate she learns that the Nate she fell in love with by letter is not the same Nate as in person.

Verity soon finds her time occupied by a mystery in the graveyard. Verity’s mother is buried in the graveyard. Only her grave is not a normal one. It is encased in an iron cage. There is another grace just like it beside her mother’s. Verity is on the hunt o uncover the truth about her mother.

I was intrigued by the concept of this book. The idea that the author has encountered two real life graves with cages placed on top of them is fascinating. I can see why the author thought this was a good story to write about. There is a mystery that lies within the graves and the cages.

I thought that this story would have some paranormal elements included with the mystery. Unfortunately this is not that type of book. Not to say that that is a bad thing but it would have helped as I struggled to stick with this book. It read slowly and I found most of the character uninteresting. The romance I could have done without in this book. It felt a little premeditated. Like because Verity’s future husband was so boring that Verity had to meet another guy and fall for him. I think that Verity is independent and after she ditched Nate it would have been nice to have seen her be on her own. Still I feel that Mrs. Salerni has some good ideas and I would check out another one of her books in the future.

So you want to know what life is like for Charley being a grim reaper. Well how about during an undercover mission to catch a cheating husband…hey a girl has to make a living some way. So anyways during the mission Charley’s assistance, Cookie is discovered and a shot out occurs in a bar. Charley is almost hit with the bullet. Luckily she falls into the arms of sexy, Reyes. Oh and did I mention that Reyes is Satan’s son.

Charley can’t let herself get distracted by Reyes. Well not 100% distracted. There is a serial killer on the loose.

I can remember reading the first book in this series and loving it. I was instantly hooked. It was not just the great characters but the humor as well. I had forgotten that a little until I picked up the latest book in this series. O-M-G and R-O-F-L.

Even though this was a fast read and I mean fast I still had to stop and put it down numerous times. This is only because of all of the awesome quotes at the beginning of each chapter. I had to share them with my co-workers. Yes, I should have saved this book for at home reading and not on my break and lunch reading at work. It was good.

Charley is her normal crazy self. So glad that she and Reyes are hooking up and taking it to the next level. She is actually using the key Reyes gave her to his apartment. Fifth Grave Past the Light is a laugh out loud, rip-roaring, entertaining read!
