Parvana is turned into a boy by her family so she can make money. She meets a girl that is also dressed as a boy and they become friends. Her father comes back and her family leaves to go find her sister.

I didn't like this book because it wasn't exciting and didn't have action. The book was really easy to read and not hard to comprehend. It didn't have many surprises and when there was one it was not changing your outlook on the book. The ending wasn't good because there was never really a climax. I did learn more about how bad it was in Afghanistan through a research project but the author of the book didn't include those things that could have made it more exciting. I wouldn't recommend this book to another student because I think the student would want to read a more exciting book. I give this book a 5 out of 10 because it wasn't exciting but it held good information.”

“This book takes place in the present and in the city of Ramallah. The main characters name is Karim. Karim loves to play soccer and it is his life long dream to be the best soccer player in the world. Unfortunately he lives in the city of Ramallah. This city is controlled by the Israeli's so he can only go outside to play soccer when the soldiers tell him he can. While playing soccer he meets a boy who calls himself Hopper. Hopper invites Karim to play soccer with him were he lives. The place they play soccer has a lot of potential, but it is covered in jagged rocks and rubble. They make it their job to fix the soccer field. Along the way they encounter problems with the Israeli soldiers and it is up to Karim to be brave and stand up to his fear of the Israeli war machines.

This book was really good, but there were some things I would like to have changed. For example some things were a little unrealistic. The fact that a simple game of soccer would motivate him to do the large things he does seems a little ridiculous, but then again there were parts that were good. for example the fact that things like this happen around the world shocked me a little. I think it is important for people to know that in order for them to be grateful for the things they have. So in some ways this book does teach a lesson. This book was also very easy to read and you can get passed it pretty fast.

I would recommend this book simply for the reason that people have to realize that things like this do happen around the world and it is important for you take not of it. Even though i love that it teaches you this there were some parts that were a little ridiculous so for that reason i give this a 6 out of 10 rating or three out of five stars.
