I became a reader at a very young age, playing library with my collection of Golden Books. But something special happened the first day of my Junior Year in HS. Each student received a box of brand new paperback books. That box of books was "the textbook" for the year. Good books, not the typical dry boring books we usually had to read for... more »

I saw a note you wrote about your Kindle...maybe I will break down and get us a Kindle for Christmas. I bought an ebookwise ebook reader a couple years ago and love it but the Kindle would also do audible. Does your new Kindle do adobe ebook format too? I am debating between Kindle and Sony because if the adobe format option. I use Overdrive at my library a lot.

Hi Jeanne, thanks for the friends request! I originally had the classic Kindle and in March of this year I sold it on Kindleboards and upgraded to a Kindle 2. Very happy to hear you are enjoying your KindleDX, they are amazing devices! I was a moderator on KB for several months but was spending way too much time there. I am enjoying more reading time. :) I am a member of the OYB book klub at KB and always browse the "Book Ciorner."

Madeline is adorable, we have 3 Shi Tzus, Max, Eli and Luke. Luke is an Imperial and weighs only 6 pounds.

I enjoyed looking at your shelf, we have several books in common. I look forward to sharing good books and keeping in touch.

    Happy Kindling...

Congratulations, Jeanne! I don't use any cover on my first generation Kindle.
When I am out-and-about, I use one of several flat macrame shoulder bags
(fit in a tote/easy to wear cross body). The ability to download items of interest
in less than a minute to a portable vending device is definitely habit forming!

Hi jeanne: during my never ending seach for new authors/books, I came
across the Andy Carpenter series. He is a defense attorney, and he
has a golden retriever which plays a major role in all of the books in
the series (7, so far). It is authored by David Rosenfelt. My library
system has the books in a/b form so I am diving in for a look-see. I
thought this series might be of interest to you, too.

Hello, thanks for the invite. Madeline is indeed precious. My sweetie is Captain Jackie, CJ for short. That is her baby picture. She is now a beautiful chocolate 98% Himalayan Brown siamese. She is actually a mutt. Found her in the train tunnel of our layout in the back yard along with several siblings. Like you I have been reading all my life and had my own "library" at home. Still do. I have hundreds of books on my TBR shelf. But I keep getting caught in the Shelfari romance challenges. Thanks again and keep in touch

My husband grew up in Manhatten, later moved to Queens and never lived on Long Island. He is an author of 18 novels and worked for the New York Times for over 20 years. His name is Graham Diamond. If you google him, you will see all of his novels.
He moved to California after we met and has lived here ever since.
Do you know him? His daughter's name is Rochelle.

I don't recall getting your post about the Hampton Bays. But now that I got this message, I'll tell you~
It is a beautiful island with plush greenry everywhere; that is in the spring and summer, because in the winter there's snow everywhere; not bad, but enough to make it look white and beautiful. The houses usually have a 1/4 to 1/2 or more acres and there are no fences in the backyards; making it look like a giant of a park. There are fine resturants, and usually a lot going on during the spring and summer.
It is a place to relax and simply enjoy one's self. I go there about every 6 months to a year and come home feeling good about the trip. My husband is from NY and his daughter lives in the Hampton Bays, so that's why we go there.
They have a boat and we go with them and ended up at a fine place to have dinner and drinks.
I'm from California so it is a treat for me something different. Although we have lovely places here too.

The pugs really do make my life more worthwhile. :) Monk is our big pug (he looks a lot like your baby) and Ophelia is our little black pug. The "textbook" experiment that you describe in your bio. is intriguing. With the 12th graders that I teach reading can occasionally be a bit hard to convince them to do.
