I teach AP English Literature and IB English 4 at Land O' Lakes High School. Most, if not all, of the books on my shelf are books I teach, but some are ones I just enjoy personally.

To other educators: If you teach any of these, and would like to exchange lesson plans, please let me know.

Thanks for your note. I'm not very active on Shelfari. I suppose it is just too much. I had stuff posted on my shelf last year, but it seems to have disappeared. Don'tknow when I'll find time to update. I too teach AP Lit and one section of Language in Dallas, TX at an urban magnet high school.

How is the year going- well, let's say that Hillsborough County teachers are getting railroaded this year. The new schedule we switched to is killing us- we've had 3 quit in the English Dept. this year alone...so needless to say this year has been less than enjoyable:) The only things keeping me coming to school are my students.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've got to throw one of those into the rotation next semester. I am glad to hear your year is off to a great start!

Sorry it took me so lng to get back to you! I actually teach in Riverview, but live in Wesley Chapel- talk about a commute:) Can you recommend any good 19th Century novels for AP Lit?

Good luck with the editing. What figure/figures or tales of mythology is it based on? I spent about four years on my first draft of "The Mind Keepers," i wound up with over 600 pages of manuscript. I knew that would never go, or if it did it would cost such a bundle! I simply arbitrarily cut several chapters that I thought were good, but not essential. I got it down to about 350 pages.. I f you want an agent or want to try to go directly to a publisher, (very tough) you will have to cut it as short as possible. They won't take new writers at all that cost them money and they are reluctant to take any unknown writers period. If you go to a subsidy press (that's common now) I may be able to give some tips. I have a website at www.maclean authors.com if you want to looke at my book and my wife's. Incidentally I'm Ken MacLean.(bookmac)

Bookmac again. Forgot to say I like your shelf--I'll be working on mine, next week A I note your science fiction items. My novel is "tech fiction" as I'd rather call it.

Hey to you too! My year has been mixed. Loooong story that will have to be shared in person. However, this year's AP kids look much better; they're already working harder than last year's, and have jumped into discussion so that I can sit back and smile! What are you reading? I'm about finished with Going After Cacciato by O'Brien. We should plan dinner...

    Greetings,

The two books you mentioned: The Crow Road and Reservation Blues, highly recommended or so-so?

I'll admit, I just finished Potter the 7th. All other books were pushed aside. I was in the Dominican Republic for the first 10 days of August so I had to save the book for afterwards. Unfortunately, waiting too long caused someone to mention a spoiler. Worst!

Anyhow, I just ordered the John Updike "Rabbit" series. A friend of mine swears by it.

    Ciao, Michael

    Hey Mr. Berger,

    How goes it?

Very glad to hear that you visited Paris this summer. I went once in 2004 and find myself continuously drawn to that photo album. I think the gardens at Versailles was my favorite.

I went with a group of teachers from around the country to visit the Dominican Republic as part of a "Social Justice Tour" earlier this month and it was one of the most wild trips of my life.

I have been teaching 8th (and some 7th) grade Social Studies since 1999.

    What are you currently reading?

    Ciao, Michael

Anyone who is a university unto himself (and all others?), deserves a note from and ex-prof (not his, I hope). I just joined shelfari group and don't know how to work with it yet. I have posted two Kahled Hosseni books only one of which I have read, my wife's reading theother. I tried to post a third, Andrew O'Hagen's "All Our Fathers" an award winner in the "UK" in 1999, and apparrently Shelfari never heard of it. Awful. I am a novelist and poet who loves to talk. Send a note if you're interested in back and forth. User ID bookmac

Thanks for adding me as a friend! And thanks for being a passionate teacher. Teachers have made a huge difference in my life and seem to be greatly undervalued in our society.

Hiya! I just looked to see if the grading shorthand is uploaded to my classroom website, and it's not. It's only on my school computer, in that case, and I won't be there for a while. If you write to me in the fall, I'll happily e-mail you with it. You could also go to Mr. Tonk's classroom website because he's got many different versions uploaded there!

I've also requested friendship (which sounds hilariously formal, like we're showing up at homes with calling cards to put on platters, or something)!
