I am a self-help junkie, and this book is truly the best. it's encouraging, insightful, and practical. I's not too new agey, hocus-pocus or too business dull either. I wish i could eat the thing and then just KNOW it. How's that for an endorsement?

This book shares some similarities with 1984 or Brave New World or Animal Farm, and is a book that lingers on your mind years later. I am in awe of Lowry and the impact this book has had on not only children, but also adults.

I read it with all three of my daughter's--many times, in fact, and it sparked many discussions. Lowry's ability to tell an allegorical tale that opens dialogue about the Nazi regime (and other cult-based societies) is remarkable and proves we learn best by stories.

I never pick up an apple and not appreciate this book.

Whale Song is the perfect summer read. it whisks you away to a simpler time--makes you feel like an adolescent again--life takes dip and then you find a new best friend and for a brief moment, life is good. Then, BAM--terrible things happen--which for a reader is the best thing that can happen. You won't be able to turn the pages fast enough, and you won't want it to end. Whale song is reminiscent of Ring of Endless Light by M. L'Engle, and Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. Hope for a rainy afternoon, find a couch, a quilt and settle in.

Madeliein L'Engle was not only my favorite childhood author, she went on to teach and shape me as a woman through all of her writings. I was priveledged to be in a workshop with her and felt that I had met a humble, wise master.
