    Crucified

    by Michael Slade
    • Rated 4 stars

This is the first non "Special X" novel from the Slade crew.

However, it still has all the elements of a Slade novel. Mystery, Gore, History.

Historian Wyatt Rook goes on an adventure when a downed bomber from World War II is unearthed in Germany that could hold the secrets that may rock modern religion to it's core.

This book disturbed me more then I can say. Ketchum grabs you and even though you don't want to keep reading you must. The want the horrible things that are happening in the book to stop and you know the only way is to reach the end.

If you can handle it definately read this one.

  • Heart-Shaped Box: A Novel
    • Rated 4 stars

A very good first novel. Heart-Shaped Box is the story of Jude Coyne, an aging rock star who purchases a "ghost" off the internet and the mayham that ensues.

Give this one a shot. You won't be disappointed.

    The Spear

    by James Herbert
    • Rated 3 stars

This is the first Herbert book that I've read. It was okay - more thriller then horror - but that's okay with me.

The storyline of an ex-Mossad agent, now private investigator, being pulled into a plot to bring about the Fourth Reich appealed to my tastes.

I will check out some of his other stuff.

  • The Last Motel

    The Last Motel

by Brett Mcbean, Keith Minnion, Brian Keene
    • Rated 4 stars

I really enjoyed this first published novel from Brett McBean.

It's set at a mountainside motel in Australia. All the players start showing up and throughout the book you get their backstories on how and why the ended up there. A serial killer is one of the guests, plus some other colorful characters.

Yes I figured out most of the "twists", but that didn't spoil this fun ride into Australia. A great first novel and Brett McBean is someone you should keep your eye on if you enjoy the writing of Richard Laymon who McBean considers a major influence.

    THE LONG LAST CALL

    by John Skipp
    • Rated 3 stars

A quick paced novella from one of the great's John Skipp.

It takes place inside a strip club at closing time. It reads like a movie, which makes sense seeing it was adapted from a screenplay written by Skipp.

    Jesus Freaks

    • Rated 4 stars

This is the first novel that I've read in the "bizarro" category.

It was very well written and won't dissapoint if you like zombie books.

The religious aspect was highly entertaining also.

    Check this one out!

Dexter is a serial killer who you can't help but like. This book was the basis of the Showtime series "Dexter". A fast quick read that you won't want to put down.

A decent novella by Mr. Ketchum about a women who is abducted on her way to have an abortion. Ketchum shows us the brutal side of human nature like few authors can.

    Kamikaze

    by Michael Slade
    • Rated 4 stars

    Another winner from Slade.

This "Special X" novel concerns the Pacific Campaign of the Second World War. The back story is very interesting and I enjoyed finding out more about Jackie Hett - one of the newest members of Special X.

Some of the older characters show up, but this is Jackie's show.

I always recommend searching out all of the Special X novels and reading them in order.
